Job Summary:

Bethesda Magazine is seeking a Director of Marketing & Events to help increase visibility, support our sales efforts and create and execute dynamic events.

Essential Job Functions:

The essential duties of this job include, but are not limited to:

  • Creating and executing an annual marketing and events plan
  • Building the Bethesda Magazine brand in the local market
  • Supporting advertising sales efforts via promotion, sales materials and other means
  • Maximizing visibility of Bethesda Magazine’s print and digital portfolio
  • Managing and expanding a profitable events business
  • Creating and managing brand marketing graphics, with the support of the art team, to ensure consistency of brand and messaging in all communications and design
  • Handling promotion and outreach for special editorial packages and reader contests
  • Overseeing content for social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn and Threads

In addition to the essential functions listed above, the employee is expected to exercise honesty, integrity and respect with all clients and co-workers, maintain a professional appearance and demeanor, demonstrate a positive attitude, communicate effectively with co-workers and clients, work with accuracy, efficiency, and attention to detail, respect the work environment and keep it as environmentally friendly as possible, and exercise initiative to learn new skills and tasks and to help co-workers when possible. The employee is also expected to perform such other duties and functions as required from time to time. This is a hybrid position with the employee expected to work in Bethesda Magazine’s Bethesda office at least three days a week.

Requirements:
  • 5+ years of marketing and event management experience, ideally with a media company
  • Experience with marketing programs that encompass print and digital
  • Experience and aptitude using the Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experience and aptitude using Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience and aptitude working with email platforms
  • Experience and aptitude creating, implementing and tracking social media
  • Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical, strategic and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in creating and adhering to budgets
  • College degree a plus
  • Knowledge of Montgomery County, Maryland a plus
