Allianz Commercial, North America is seeking an effective leader to lead ALL Claims Functions in the North American region. We are seeking an effective leader with self-confidence, strong communication and management skills, creative, analytical and innovative thinking, perseverance, with a willingness to take risks and an openness to change. The effective leader that we are seeking at Allianz Commercial will:
- Partner with key executives to develop strategic and operational plans aimed at achieving both growth and profitability targets.
- Work collaboratively with underwriting, pricing, and actuarial teams on understanding loss drivers and loss trends, with the ability to demonstrate claims value proposition to clients.
- Strategically manage teams to provide customers with strong claims service, by providing strong technical claims expertise and excellent communication. This includes sophisticated coverage analysis, timely claims resolution, and strong negotiation of settlements.
- Lead, direct, and take leadership accountability for establishing performance objectives and performance metrics for all levels of the claim’s organization.
- Drive initiatives that result in the continuous improvement in claims outcomes and ULAE costs.
- Identify and implement claims best practices in all claim’s units.
- Establish working relationships with vendors, with the ability to negotiate vendor contracts to maximize the financial benefit of Allianz and its customers.
- Possess an expertise in claims litigation management.
The VP, Regional Head of Claims (m/f/d), that we are seeking will be based in New York or Chicago.

Our North America Claims team is committed to finding preferred solutions with big picture thinking in respect of large and complex policies, building relationships with our clients based on continuity of experience.
The Impact You Will Have
Reporting to the CEO and President of Allianz Commercial, NA, you will join a highly skilled and experienced claims organization.
Some of your specific responsibilities could include:
- Leadership of all Claims Functions in the NA Region, reporting to the CEO of NA.
- Manage the claims portfolio of the Region for all Lines of Business and all cross-line claims services within the region including Primary Liability, Excess Liability, Property, Marine, Financial Lines, Aviation, and Energy & Construction. Direct internal claim handling as well as TPA management and oversight.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the regional strategy as part of the regional EMT. Support profitable growth and expansion.
- Manage the technical claims function for the assigned lines of business at the regional level with up to $5M in authority.
- Participate in the development of the Global Claims strategy as part of the Global Claims EMT and execute within region. Requires some international travel.
- Market Management – Making Claims a part of the sales approach, by participating in meeting with clients to promoting AzC claims handling capabilities. This includes identifying targets and business wins that can validate Claims impact on winning business.
- Relationship Management - Ensure the Claims function is adequately and positively represented internally within the Allianz group, and externally to the market (especially to clients and brokers).
- Promote close cooperation and collaboration with other functions including UW, Risk Control, Operations and Actuarial.
What You’ll Bring To The Role
- Master’s Degree - Preferable Degree in Engineering, Law, or other appropriate discipline.
- Trade Qualification - Completion of professional insurance certification such as CPCU or SCLA.
- Minimum of 7 - 10 years’ experience with a top expert understanding of regional/local line of business insurance markets and competitor markets.
- Minimum of 7 – 10 years’ experience in Claims management position in relevant line of business, including experience in leadership of direct teams internationally and with complex global matrix environments.
- Claims management: knowledge of claims handling process from notification to settlement and recovery.
- Top expert understanding of legal and regulatory framework.
- Product & Coverages: understanding of relevant products, wordings, terms and conditions of coverages.
- Reserving, reinsurance and coinsurance: knowledge of reserving principles and practices: robust understanding of coinsurance and reinsurance and application.
- Litigation: understanding of relevant legal processes and procedures, litigation management, litigation avoidance techniques (e.g. mediation).
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze highly complex data, from multiple sources, in detail; identify and resolve issues before they transpire.
- Ability to express ideas and messages clearly, both written and verbally; ability to "sell" an improvised or prepared audience winning story.
- Negotiation & Conflict management: Ability to negotiate best position for AzC and client, often in contentious situations, managing conflicting priorities of various parties.
- Ability to persuade and motivate others to act, without executive authority Experience in managing complex projects, ideally across international organizations.
- Well recognized relationship building with brokers at peer group level and well established within local market.
The annualized base pay range for this role is $250,000 - $410,000. The annual base salary range represents a nationwide market range. The actual salary for this position may be above and will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role, the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate. The base pay is just one component of the AzC total compensation package. As part of our comprehensive compensation and highly rated benefits programs, employees are also eligible for annual performance-based cash incentive awards.
