Hughes Socol Piers Resnick & Dym, Ltd. (HSPRD), a Chicago-based law firm with a national practice, seeks an Associate with a minimum of 2 years of medical malpractice litigation experience to work with the firm’s Medical Malpractice group. The group is a defense trial practice representing hospitals and medical professionals in professional liability/medical malpractice lawsuits.

We seek an Associate with excellent skills in written and oral communication, legal and factual analysis, as well as negotiation and advocacy. Some travel is required, and responsibilities include the following:

  • Taking and defending depositions
  • Conducting written discovery and research
  • Drafting pleadings and motions
  • Participating in trial preparation and second chair trial experience is preferred
  • Representing clients in court


Ideal Candidates Will Have:

  • Exceptional legal research, writing, and analytic skills;
  • Experience with medical malpractice litigation
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and persuasively;
  • Excellent organizational abilities, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team;
  • Demonstrated commitment to issues central to the group’s practice;
  • An interest in developing business and expanding our current practice.


Candidates must have at least 2 years of medical malpractice litigation experience. The firm values judicial clerkships, fellowships, and other significant work experience before or after law school related to our practice areas and clients. Trial experience in personal injury or products liability areas is also valued.
