Job Summary
Accountable for directing operations of a Digital Commerce merchandising team to drive the digital category strategy, achieve strategic and operational business goals, and hit financial targets. Owns the development and oversees the implementation of Digital Commerce merchandising strategies for their division. Directly responsible for shaping online customer-centric pricing, promotions site experience, and assortment decisions, as well as guiding digital marketing programs for a given set of categories. Collaborates daily with cross-functional teams to oversee the planning and execution of online merchandising strategy essential to the Organization’s vision. Oversees ongoing business through insight-led decision-making, assortment optimization, category marketing, visual merchandising, and supplier management.


Job Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for building out strategic roadmap to support product discovery and enriched content across Walgreens digital properties, aligned to business and customer needs. Will work with technical and business teams to define requirements and execute.
  2. Identifies opportunities to improve digital user experience and conversion and leverages Product / UX teams to develop solutions. Continually tests, develops and drives improvements in site experience, order conversion, customer satisfaction and sales.
  3. Drives site innovation through the investigation of new features and functions. Identifies new technology solutions to improve category merchandising tactics and partners with internal and external vendors to implement.
  4. Develops process to optimize customer category experience across Digital Merchandising team and oversees implementation of new process across teams.
  5. Determines insights, analysis, and research needs to better understand users’ behavior and goals.
  6. Manages overall digital assortment content and product lifecycle strategy. Ensures timely digital product activation, manages strategy for digitally enriched data requirements and attributes, and provides digital point of view on master data processes.
  7. Identifies opportunities to create personalized journeys in product discovery category experiences tailored to customer segments and manages across team to solution.
  8. Oversees development of the category experience strategy and optimize customer category experience for merchandising, taxonomy, facets, purchase path (search and navigation), data content, SEO and post transaction results.
  9. Champions use of A/B and multivariate testing to improve customer category product discovery experience and increase conversion rates and AOV, as well as analytics to troubleshoot and identify existing issues within the funnel to remove friction and aid decision-making.
  10. Brings in external best practices and competitive benchmarks to inform decisions and stay on top of new trends; identifies options to differentiate our brand in the competitive vertical.
  11. Manages a high-performing team. Develops and mentors staff through on-boarding, open communication, training and development opportunities and performance management processes; builds and maintains employee morale and motivation; ensures the team is appropriately staffed with required competencies; fosters a diverse and inclusive workplace.

Basic Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree and at least 6 years of ecommerce, user experience, merchandising or digital experience OR a high school diploma/GED and at least 9 years of ecommerce, user experience, merchandising or digital experience.
  2. Experience establishing & maintaining relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  3. Experience developing and communicating strategic initiatives that align with business goals and budget.
  4. Experience identifying operational issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems.
  5. Experience interacting and influencing others.
  6. At least 2 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.
  7. At least 3 years of experience of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross-functional team leadership.
  8. Willing to travel up to 10 % of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience working in a digital environment.
  2. At least 4 years of experience in negotiating deals.
  3. At least 5 years of experience in one or more of the following: retail, merchandising, digital experience, vendor relations, or retail marketing.
  4. Experience working in fast-paced environment.
  5. Experience leading cross-functional teams in a matrix organization.
  6. At least 5 years of experience in indirect management of team members, including assisting in the development, training and assignment of work/projects to other team members.
