We are a LegalTech startup on a mission to transform the everyday work of legal professionals. Our AI-powered tool cuts the time that lawyers spend on drafting legal documents and allows them to dedicate saved time to high-value work such as case strategy and client relationships. Law firms using Alma are able to increase the productivity of their attorneys & paralegals and scale their practices without having to hire more people.

Founding Team
The founding team has an extensive background in the legal industry, consulting, and building ML platforms. Shuo built the ML Platform (Michelangelo) at Uber for 5+ years after which he was the head of AI & ML team at a SupportLogic (a series B startup using predictive & generative AI for customer support). Aizada is a graduate of Harvard Law School, an attorney with 7+ years of experience including working at a top law firm such as Cooley and an ex-McKinsey consultant. Assel is a graduate of Harvard Business School and has 7 years of experience building products at FinTechs such as SoFi and Step and at large financial institutions when working at Ernst & Young.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with the founding team and early customers to build a world-class AI-powered product.
- Architect, develop and maintain the server-side logic, databases, APIs, and other backend processes to meet application requirements.
- Collaborate with front-end developers to ensure seamless integration of user-facing elements.
- Engage in the entire application lifecycle and hold high bar for coding, debugging, and deploying with an emphasis on high-quality, scalable code.
Role requirements
- Enjoy working in a fast-paced environment & wear multiple hats.
- 3+ years of backend / full-stack development experience.
- Experience with developing products built on top of LLMs / ML.
- Proficient in Python, FastAPI & PostgreSQL.
- Experience in building products from zero to one.
- Ability to seek & find the right resources for solving open-ended problems.
- Located in the San Francisco Bay Area or willing to relocate.
- BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience working in a small startup environment (Seed or Series A).
- Experience working across the stack.
- Understand data lake / data warehouse.
- Understand Transformer / Attention / GPU inference.
