Dykema Gossett PLLC, a leading national law firm, is recruiting for a Staff Accountant. The Staff Accountant is responsible for internal auditing, bank reconciliations, general ledger reconciliations, accounting systems balancing, journal entries, fixed asset system maintenance/reporting, personal property tax filings, use tax filings, and various special projects. This position is open to any of our office locations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs monthly bank reconciliations for all local operating, money market and trust accounts. Records required journal entries for adjustments. Coordinates the resolution of all bank variances with Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Treasury Services.
  • Responsible for reconciling cleared checks for all Firm accounts.
  • Responsible for daily review of all firm bank accounts for accuracy against the Accounting System. Monitors accounts for returns (ACH, check) and helps to resolve daily account variances.
  • Assist with the accounting systems daily balancing, month-end close cycle and year-end close cycle.
  • Responsible for reconciliating client credit card payments monthly and resolving issues.
  • Assist with filling all data and document requests related to the financial audits and tax returns.
  • Prepares monthly balance sheet account reconciliations, including accrued liabilities.
  • Responsible for adding assets and projects in the fixed asset software (Sage) at the direction of the General Accounting Manager.
  • Assist with the preparation and filing of all firm personal property tax returns. Assist with preparing monthly and annual use tax filings.
  • Responsible for organizing accounting files (physical and electronic) including tax filings, leases and bank documents.
  • Completes special projects as requested.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required.
  • Prefer 3 years of experience, but will consider new college graduates. Experience in legal a plus.
  • Strong understanding of general ledger, balance sheet, income statement, and financial reporting principles.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite; Advanced technical skills using Excel required.
  • Experience with Aderant accounting software, or similar highly desired.
  • Excellent communication, time management, interpersonal and organizational skills; attention to detail essential.
  • Pro-active, inquisitive and analytical problem solver able to exercise independent judgment with a proven track record of improvements in areas of responsibility.
  • Ability to collaborate and cross-team with all finance team members and promote a positive work environment that embraces the diversity and abilities of all members.
  • Requires flexibility and ability to prioritize workload effectively.
  • Excellent attention to detail required.
