Description
Responsible for maintaining care, control, and custody of detainees. Conduct a complete history review and folder review of all inmates received into the facility, Review housing, charges, convictions, prior incarcerations, history of violence, prior institutional behavior, etc. Initial review is conducted and modified as soon as possible for all inmates.
Duties
  • Conduct a review every 60-90 days for all inmates that are retained in the facility based on the inmate's custody level, program status, and previous issued alerts and overall confinement adjustments. Each inmate is documented upon review.
  • Daily review all inmates received into the facility and move inmates as needed once they have gone to first appearance. Provide a list to 2 A Control for movement from A Wing to locations within the facility based on the inmate's custody level.
  • Review all sentenced inmates records to determine housing and work status. Review medical work status, interview inmates and provide documentation for inmate workers responsibilities to inmates for available job assignments.
  • Maintain the trustee work list on the Share Drive to give deputies and control room operator's access to the full trustee list and inmate work crew list.
  • Maintain and update the trustee work list with the on duty supervisor and deputies, maintenance, garage, and the kitchen. The trustee work lists is maintained daily to provide instant information to the deputies and control room operator for when inmates are sentenced, released, changed job, fired, etc.
  • Confinement logs are maintained weekly for inmates confined for seven (7) days and monthly for inmates confined for thirty (30) days or more.
  • Run a weekly report of all inmates housed in confinement and update the Confinement Committee report. Include information/documentation to the committee to review the reasons for confinement. After the confinement meeting, update the report and provide a copy to the all supervisors.
  • Run a daily report of all inmates to ensure the initial classification and reclassification screening is done in a timely manner. Initial classification must be completed within 30 days of incarceration and reclassification must be completed within 90 days of previous classification for all inmates.
  • Run a Full Offense Report to review all of the inmates in the facility. The complete review consists of inmate names, location, charges, etc. to verify all inmates are in the appropriate housing location based on current and past history.
  • Complete a report for the Executive Staff Assistant for the Monthly CSI report. This information will include at a minimum of the following items: average number of sentence work assignments, total number of volunteer work assignment, total number of fired inmates, total number of inmates on "medical No-work" status, and total number of inmate awaiting assignment.
  • Accurately and thoroughly complete, update, and submit required reports, documents and forms to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner pursuant to applicable state regulations and in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Maintains effective and safe care, control, and custody of detainees at all times pursuant to all agency and state rules/regulations and policies.
  • Answers detainee requests in a professional manner, referring unanswered requests to the appropriate personnel pursuant to FMJS requirements and agency policies.
  • Observes, documents, and reports any unusual changes in detainee behavior pursuant to FMJS requirements and in accordance with agency policies.
  • Maintains the detainee count board in an accurate, up to date manner and properly reflecting detainee counts in accordance with agency policies/procedures and FMJS requirements.
  • Processes applicable incoming and outgoing documents and/or files in a timely manner consistent with supervisory direction and/or agency policies/procedures.
  • Participates in cross-training with other co-workers; assists those co-workers when the need arises and learns new tasks by working together as a team.
  • Reports identified or potential maintenance, safety, and/or non-compliance findings, hazards, and incidents to the appropriate personnel and/or department.
  • Timely completes all assignments, special projects, and budgetary requirements (if applicable) as directed, adhering to applicable agency policies.
  • Adheres to leave and attendance policies, including punctual arrival and completing full shifts. Informs the supervisor about illness or untimely incidents, reports overtime hours worked, and timely submits timesheet, attendance, and leave requests.
  • Regularly checks assigned mailbox, phone calls, PowerDMS, and email messages, responding promptly and professionally.
  • Makes assigned chain of command aware of anything noteworthy.
  • Responds to supervision, guidance, direction, and feedback from executive staff and superiors in a receptive manner and in accordance with agency policies.
  • Conducts themselves in a polite, helpful, courteous, ethical, and professional manner, abiding by the established code of ethics, and demonstrates a courteous and professional image when engaged in any activity with the public
  • Cultivates positive working relationships with colleagues and other agency units to enhance work area output and services in line with agency policies.
  • Demonstrates an understanding, consideration, and respect of cultural, religious, and gender differences when interacting with the public and coworkers.
  • Actively participate in job-specific training.
  • Operates and performs minor repairs for office equipment to manufacturer's specifications and/or within the specified parameters pursuant to agency policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
Minimum Education, Experience and Requirements:
• High school diploma or an acceptable equivalency diploma (GED).
• Two (2) years of relevant work experience.
  • Internal candidates must have successfully completed their probationary period
  • Internal candidates with punitive disciplinary action within 365 days are ineligible

The Sheriff's Office participates in the Florida Retirement System. Employees have a choice from two plans under the FRS:Pension Plan and Investment Plan.
