Position

The Director, Retail for Frontgate has the primary responsibility to provide consistent and effective leadership and direction for all retail stores and their operations including Design Services and B2B sales. Ensure the highest level of Customer Service and workforce management to maximize revenues and meet future growth plans. This role is charged with the consistent implementation of strategic initiatives and achievement of goals and objectives through a focus on talent, establishing the stores selling & service culture, operational excellence, product assortment & in-store visual merchandising.

This position reports directly into the SVP – Brand and Customer Experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Drive for Results
    • Drive sales goals and performance metrics through the implementation of revenue building selling and service strategies.
    • Achieve/Exceed all financial objectives with regards to expense control, margin preservation, loss prevention, and bottom-line results.
    • Initiate, plan, execute, and achieve annual financial objectives with finance, as well as incentive and compensation plan with HR.
    • Partner with corporate cross-functional partners (Marketing, Merchandising, Inventory, CS&E) to help drive these results.
  2. Focus on Talent
    • Lead Store Managers and their teams towards the achievement of maximum profitability, accountability, and growth in line with the company vision, mission, and values.
    • Foster a workplace that results in the development of a high-performing team. Implement and lead strategies for recruitment, people development, retention, and succession planning. Ensure ongoing specific and immediate coaching and feedback.
  3. Customer Experience
    • Ensure a world-class Customer Experience exists for our customers through effective execution of a selling and service culture and by continually staying connected to customer needs, anticipating changes, and preparing teams to meet consumer challenges.
    • Analyze market trends and partner with merchandising and the corporate creative team to ensure an effective strategy exists that drives sales revenue opportunities and achieves visual merchandising standards.
    • Ensure the execution and maintenance of visual merchandising and graphics standards and directives in partnership with the corporate creative team.
    • Develop retail specific strategies to bring the Frontgate Difference to life.
  4. Leading the Retail Strategy
    • Lead the process of coordinating all cross-functional teams to ensure all retail strategies are clearly defined throughout the Frontgate functions.
    • Partner with Merchandising, Planning and Allocation, Marketing teams to ensure product and store allocations provide a cohesive strategy rooted in a strong brand experience, to drive sales revenue opportunities.
    • Lead the Design Services and B2B business in partnership with the Sr. Director to develop strategies to build these services at the store level including in-store and in-home/business appointments.
    • Work directly with CBI Leadership to optimize operations as scale, cross-functionally contributing with leaders from all other CBI Brands.
    • Monitor and maintain compliance of all policies and procedures. Communicate business opportunities and identify possible solutions.
  5. New Stores
    • Work with Frontgate cross-functional partners and CBI Leadership to develop and evaluate strategies for opening new store formats including optimization plans that respond to regional, seasonal, and geographical needs.
    • Partner with real estate, finance, and Store development teams to determine optimal store locations.
    • Strategically plan and develop growth of the fleet to meet future expectations and growth of the retail division.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven leadership through talent development and business results, with a track record of leading, driving, and motivating teams.
  • Strong personnel management and retail operations knowledge, including inventory control, loss prevention, retail systems, merchandising, customer service, and store budget preparation.
  • Proven experience in delivering results; strong 'retail math' knowledge and business acumen; thorough knowledge of retail KPIs (ADT, AUR, UPT, etc.), Store P&L, schedule management, etc.
  • Track record of working in very dynamic, fluid, and high growth (start-up) environments.
  • Advanced computer skills - Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access); knowledge of Retail POS systems, scheduling systems, etc. required.
  • Constant use of office equipment and mobile office devices (laptops, BB/PDA, etc.).
  • Travel required: 30-50% of time.
  • The successful candidate must be a dynamic leader, strategic thinker, and highly motivated. He or she must have a strong ability to communicate and build effective cross-functional relationships.

  • Store Managers and Field Teams
  • Field Home Office Departments (Design Services Manager and Operations Manager)

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • 4-year college degree in business, design, or related field preferred.
  • 15 years or more of retail management experience in a high-volume retail store with at least 10 years of multi-store environment.
  • Previous experience in a Home Office market, in a Home Office support role highly preferred.
  • Experience in home furnishing, showroom, or design services highly preferred.
