Supervises: None
Hybrid Schedule (subject to change): In office 3 days a week, Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Remote Wednesdays and Fridays. If there is a Monday holiday, the in-office days will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and remote Friday. This schedule may change based on the department needs and meetings.
Position Budgeted: $54,000.00 to $62,000.00
Position Summary:
The Finance Assistant provides accounting support to the Boston Foundation (TBF) and the Philanthropic Initiative (TPI) Department under the direction of the Finance Director. The Finance Assistant performs routine accounting department functions and works closely with other accounting staff.
Essential Functions:
  • Assists the Finance Director in preparation of the month end processing for TPI Department, including time sheets and expenses;
  • Assists the Finance Director in preparation of monthly invoicing to TPI clients;
  • Records and deposits accounts receivable receipts in a timely manner;
  • Prepares TPI departmental invoices for payment according to the established budgeted expense accounts;
  • Assists the Finance Director in preparation of TPI Scholarship requests;
  • Assists the Finance Director in monthly and quarterly closing entries for the Boston Foundation (TBF);
  • Updates vendor and grant Automated Clearing House (ACH) information via DocuSign; and
  • Assists in preparation of contracts for consultants.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Individuals assigned to this position may perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Preparation, Knowledge, Previous Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; and
  • 1-2 years' related experience preferred.
Skills, Abilities, Competencies:
  • Experience in non-profit grants accounting preferred;
  • Knowledge of standard accounting operating procedures and principles;
  • Successful work experience in an office environment preferred;
  • Ability to maintain TBF's required standards of confidentiality;
  • Maintain proficiency as needed and approved by attending trainings, reading job-related materials, and meeting with others in area of responsibility;
  • Proven ability to manage and complete concurrent projects;
  • Proven ability to be a proactive and flexible team player;
  • Intermediate skill (fluency) in Excel, i.e. set up a spreadsheet, select and apply formulas;
  • Intermediate skill level in Word, i.e. create and format a document;
  • Proficient skill in Outlook;
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; and
  • Effective organizational skills.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands:
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time;
  • Ability to use a computer keyboard for long periods of time; and
  • Ability to work onsite and remotely, as required.
