What are we looking for in a Behavioral Health Specialist?
The Behavioral Health Specialist supports clients in our adult residential treatment facility with improving their recognition and management of symptoms, expanding their system of natural supports, and developing skills to live independently. Behavioral Health Specialists support clients in their recovery by assisting with skill development, developing treatment and discharge plans, facilitating educational groups, and providing mental health assessments and evidence-based therapy. This position is located at Waypoint, our adult residential treatment facility in Walla Walla, which offers crisis stabilization and residential treatment for individuals 18 years of age and older. This 16-bed facility is staffed 24 hours a day and offers a safe and supportive environment for residents to develop skills for long-term maintenance and control over their health. Each resident collaborates with the treatment team to develop an individualized care plan to outline goals and progress, help coordinate follow-up care, and ensure continued improvement after completing treatment at Waypoint. The Behavioral Health Specialist position has a Monday-Friday 8am-5pm work schedule.
Behavioral Health Specialist duties may include:
  • facilitating individual or group counseling and skill building sessions
  • completing mental health assessments for new program clients
  • developing an individualized treatment plan in collaboration with each client
  • monitoring client symptoms, medication response, and activities of daily living
  • providing individual therapy using evidence-based practices
  • assisting with case management and cross-system care
  • assessing clients for safety and risk to self or others, and taking appropriate crisis intervention measures when indicated
  • completing all required clinical documentation in a timely and client-centered manner
Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in social work, counseling, or related field leading to eligibility for clinical licensure
  • Must be eligible for registration as Agency Affiliated Counselor
  • Valid driver's license, vehicle liability insurance, and a safe driving record for the past three years
