The Job
The Department of Public Health is recruiting for Health Education Assistants who assist in the implementation of various health education activities in the community. Duties may include: assisting with community outreach events/presentations; conducting individual or group discussions to provide basic information on health topics; assisting in determining community needs; and assisting with the preparation of health education bulletins for distribution.
Current vacancies exist in the Opioid Response Initiative team and the HIV Prevention Program. The resulting eligible list from this recruitment may also be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required to perform duties off-site as needed. Employees may be required to make provision for transportation and use personal vehicles (mileage reimbursement is available). At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced for the individual providing the transportation.
Pre-Employment Process: Prior to appointment, applicants must pass a background investigation which includes verification of employment history and education, fingerprinting, physical exam, and drug screening.
Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require Visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future. Candidates must be able to present their legal right to work in the United States at the time of employment.
Shift Availability: Incumbents may be required to work occasional evenings and/or weekends depending on assignment.
Disaster Service Worker: Positions in DPH are designated Disaster Service Workers and may be scheduled to work after-hours, weekends and holidays to cover emergency response.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must qualify for one of the following options:
Option A - Education:
Thirty (30) semester (45 quarter) units of completed college coursework, half of which must be in Health Promotion and Education, Public Health/Community Health, Health Administration, Public Health Policy, Global Health, Environmental Health, Health Science, Nutrition, Epidemiology, or closely related field of study.
Option B - Education and Experience:
Education: Fifteen (15) semester (23 quarter) units of completed college coursework.
-AND-
Experience: One (1) year of full-time experience assisting with the planning, development, andimplementation of public health education programs, presentations and educational materials.

Desired Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a degree/coursework towards the preferred field of study, which includes: Health Promotion & Education, Public Health/Community Health, Health Administration, Public Health Policy, Global Health, Environmental Health, Health Science, Nutrition, Epidemiology or closely related field. Ideal candidates will demonstrate past/current work experience in HIV prevention, community outreach, and/or overdose prevention and naloxone training and distribution services. Candidates experienced as Disaster Service Workers are also highly desired. Furthermore, the ideal candidate will possess effective communication and oral presentation skills. Candidates must be able to conduct presentations effectively and positively to a diverse population within the community. Also, experience in the use of computer applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook, or Prezi Presentation software) is highly desirable.
Applicants fluent in American Sign Language, Arabic, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish and/or Vietnamese are strongly encouraged to apply.
