Job Requirements / Description

Position Summary:

Responsible for planning, development, fiscal management, and administration of the complete YMCA swim program.

The position includes supervision of the indoor pool, along with hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating the program.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Ensure national quality standards are met or exceeded in all program areas.
  2. Directly supervise the lifeguards and lifeguard trainer staff. Oversee pool schedules.
  3. Plan and implement aquatic emergency drills.
  4. Work cooperatively with Association Branch staff regarding teen and community programs.
  5. Develop written goals and objectives annually that align with branch results in areas of program and membership.
  6. Attend appropriate meetings and trainings.
  7. Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate all staff under your direct supervision in a consistent and timely manner.
  8. Keep staff schedule complete and current. Interview and hire new staff. Observe swim instructors and team staff to assure program quality on a regular schedule.
  9. Communicate with instructors and team staff in a caring and professional manner.
  10. Check time sheets and verify hours worked by staff.
  11. Maintain current working knowledge of programs.
  12. Instruct lessons as needed. Lifeguard as needed.
  13. Communicate with members/parents regarding concerns, changes, credits, or transfers.
  14. Develop new programs to ensure that programs reflect the needs of the community.
  15. Responsible for regular inspection of equipment and follow up with maintenance should repairs be needed.
  16. Monitor phone calls, e-mails, and return messages in a timely manner.
  17. Plan yearly budget and monitor monthly reports.
  18. Provide supervisor with appropriate information to prepare the annual report.
  19. Keep up with all of the YMCA's safety policies and procedures.
  20. Other responsibilities as determined by your supervisor.
  21. Follow and enforce all relevant Association and Branch policies.
  22. Exemplify the YMCA character development principles at all times.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

  1. Bachelor's Degree (BA) from a four-year college or university, or one to two years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certifications / Training: Maintain current certification in the following:

  1. YMCA Lifeguard Certification
  2. YMCA Swim Instructor Certification
  3. YMCA Swim Trainer Certification
  4. First Aid and CPR Certificate
  5. PALS - Principles of Aquatics Leadership
