Job Title: Executive Director

Reports To: Board of Directors

Job Summary: The Executive Director is responsible for the overall strategic, operational, and financial management of the Art Center. This role involves leading a dynamic team, fostering community relationships, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality artistic programs and exhibitions. The Executive Director will work closely with the Board of Directors to fulfill the Art Center’s mission and vision.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership and Management:
    • Provide visionary leadership and direction to the Art Center.
    • Oversee daily operations, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Develop and implement strategic plans in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
    • Foster a positive and inclusive organizational culture.
  2. Advocacy and Engagement:
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with local, state and national stakeholders, donors, and partners.
    • Represent the Art Center at public events, meetings, and media engagements.
    • Promote the Art Center’s programs and initiatives to increase visibility and support at a local, state, and national level.
  3. Staff Development:
    • Recruit, hire, and supervise staff and volunteers.
    • Provide professional development opportunities and foster a collaborative work environment.
    • Conduct performance evaluations and support staff growth.
  4. Financial Oversight:
    • Work with the Finance Committee of the Board in the development of the annual budget.
    • Ensure financial stability and sustainability through fundraising, grants, and partnerships.
    • Responsible for monitoring and management of income/expenditures to budget.
    • Oversee financial reporting and compliance with relevant regulations.
  5. Exhibit and Program Development:
    • Oversee a diverse range of artistic programs, exhibitions, and events.
    • Ensure programs align with the Art Center’s mission and engage a broad audience.
  6. Board Relations:
    • Serve as the primary liaison between the Board of Directors and the Art Center staff.
    • Provide regular updates and reports to the Board.
    • Assist in the recruitment and orientation of new Board members.

Physical Demands:

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is expected to speak English. Additionally, the employee may need to lift up to 25 pounds and may spend at least 50% of the day sitting at a desk. The employee will be required to travel for educational and promotional reasons.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Arts Administration, Business, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a leadership role within an arts or cultural organization.
  • Proven track record in fundraising, financial management, and strategic planning.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Passion for the arts and commitment to the Art Center’s mission.
  • Experience in employee management with basic knowledge of human resources.
  • Experience with development software, Excel, Word, WordPress, and email marketing products.
