Department Marketing Statement: The Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) serves the needs of international students and scholars as well as the UCSB community who work with this international population.

Brief Summary of Job Duties:

Under the general direction of the Director of International Students and Scholars, the Assistant Director, International Scholars, is responsible for utilizing advanced knowledge of various federal programs, immigration policy, and OISS services to effectively serve the UCSB Scholar and international employee population. Overseeing and advising on the preparation and submission of documents for the following non-immigrant visa classifications: permanent resident petitions, H-1B Temporary Worker status, TN (NAFTA) Business Professional status, E-3, and J-1 temporary worker for faculty, academic researchers, and professional staff. Supervise 2.0 FTE Career staff who provide complex advising, programming, and other immigration services to UCSB's J-1 and H-1B Scholar population.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training at this level
  • Experience as DOS-authorized Responsible Officer (RO or ARO) with a J Exchange Visitor program in a university environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fully experienced with immigration policy interpretation to develop & implement & develop processes, especially re: international scholars, with knowledge of academic departments and academic culture especially researchers at a large research university
  • Experience with Sunapsis, SEVIS and iCert databases; living, studying and/or working abroad
  • Experience as workshop presenter, training, conferences, and other venues

Special Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States in order to be authorized to use the Department of Homeland Security's Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) database.
  • May work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Satisfactory criminal history background check.
