Position Title: Assistant Teaching Professor

Salary Range: A reasonable salary range estimate for this position is $78,200-$121,700. The posted UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. The base salary range for this position is $78,200-$101,400.

Position Description

The DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY AND BIOCHEMISTRY at UC San Diego invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in Chemistry Education at the Assistant Teaching Professor level. Candidates will be expected to conduct research in the field of organic chemistry or related areas and contribute to ongoing course development and evidence-based instruction in undergraduate organic and introductory chemistry lecture and laboratory for both majors and non-majors.

This faculty series emphasizes teaching and educational scholarship, with Teaching Professors typically teaching five course sections over three quarters per academic year. Participation in departmental and university service is expected. Overall, Teaching Professors are evaluated on teaching excellence, professional achievement, and university service.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications (required at time of application): Candidates must have or be a candidate for a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Chemical Education or a closely related field and have at least one year of teaching experience in both lecture and laboratory settings.

Additional Qualifications (required at time of start): Candidates must receive their Ph.D. before the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor undergraduate students.
  • Interest and experience with emerging pedagogical trends and curricular development in chemistry.
  • Commitment to equity and inclusion in higher education.
  • Experience with educational grant writing and chemical education research.
