Accountant
Nature of Work
The Accountant will perform a variety of duties in support of the Accounting department under the supervision of the Comptroller. Duties will include but are not limited to applying generally accepted accounting principles and procedures in working with specialist accounting records and reports, assembling and analyzing data and transactions, and preparing statements and reports. Will monitor various aspects of accounting office and journal entries. Will work with accounts payable staff, reconcile and over se inventory and fixed assets. This position will also serve as the College' travel coordinator. This position is non-exempt with regard to FLSA overtime provisions. This position is covered by the NSCPA negotiated agreement.
Examples of Work Performed
Essential Duties:
1. Responsible for grant financial reporting, requesting reimbursement through IBT process and maintaining grant files
2. Process trustee bank reconciliations and transactions as needed
3. Responsible for Revolving and Wire transfer bank accounts; including travel advances and monthly reports
4. Assist Comptroller with reconciliations between NeSIS, SAP, and Enterprise One computer systems
5. Process daily deposits and related journal entries
Secondary Duties:
1. Assist with reviewing and/or posting of accounts payable batches and journal entry batches
2. Review employee reimbursements for compliance with board policy, state, and federal regulations
3. Participate in the posting, balancing and reconciliation of the general ledger and subsidiary accounts as needed
4. Assist with preparation of audit work papers as needed
5. Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting/related field; or an Associate's degree in accounting/related field plus three years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience with SAP or NIS is desirable. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate attention to detail, have the ability to be proactive, possess a questioning attitude, approach problems in a logical manner, and have good follow-through. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are strongly preferred as well as the ability to work effectively with various departments on campus and external constituencies.
