Position Summary:

The Vice President, People Operations is responsible for leading and mentoring the Human Resources team with a goal of earning a high level of credibility as an effective and responsive department that holds the highest level of integrity and confidentiality. The successful candidate in this position will be responsible for managing the HR operations, training, performance management, compliance, and benefits administration areas of the HR function. This key leadership position in our Chicago office is an exciting opportunity to help shape the HR team’s strategy during a high-growth era for the company.

Key Responsibilities:

HR Operations and Systems:

  • Create and analyze reports related to turnover, wages, overtime, and others in order to identify areas of opportunity and focus.
  • Ensure overall effectiveness of the partnership between the HR and Field Operations departments, maintaining ongoing relationships with both Field Management and Field hourly employees.
  • Partner with Chief People Officer and legal counsel to resolve all employee labor issues.
  • Optimize UKG HCM system and manage relationships with all third-party vendors and partners while enhancing the employee experience.
  • Evaluate and assess the current team and its ability to support the future direction of the company.

Training & Development:

  • Develop training programs and curriculum for all employees within the organization at both the Field and Corporate levels.
  • Enhance current training programs, including TPSU, LinkedIn Learning, Hourly Training, Annual Leadership Summit and other peer-to-peer training programs.

Performance Management:

  • Evaluate and recommend changes to the current performance management process.
  • Administer and manage company-wide annual performance reviews.
  • Analyze annual incentive bonus program and other incentive programs to determine appropriate administration and effective implementation.

Compliance Administration:

  • Advise management on all compliance areas including the Company’s internal policy as well as all federal, state and local laws as they relate to the HR function.
  • Create and launch a company-wide audit program to ensure all employee files and postings are compliant with federal and state laws.
  • Provide direction to Field Management on maintaining safety initiatives in compliance with OSHA standards.
  • Partner with Chief People Officer on union matters including negotiations and contract administration, as applicable.
  • Partner with Chief People Officer and Legal to maintain shuttle driver compliance, including evaluating databases and other efficient systems to track and ensure compliance.

Compensation & Benefits Administration:

  • Evaluate and design company-wide compensation strategy in partnership with Finance.
  • Design and implement benefits programs that effectively align with the organization’s business goals including but not limited to Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, STD, LTD, 401(K), bonus programs, wellness initiatives, and other incentive programs.
  • Manage the benefits program at the highest level, taking into consideration how benefits impact the company culture.
  • Responsible for developing, gathering and preparing data and reports (compensation, benefits or policy changes) for executive management.
  • Monitor activities to stay within established budget, working closely with Finance to forecast and monitor budget related to compensation, benefits, and policy programs.
  • Provide training, coaching, and guidance to the Benefits Administrator.
  • Manage benefit providers, brokers, and financial consultants; develop new ideas, recommend changes, and oversee delivery.
  • Promote employee understanding of benefit plans at all levels of the organization.
  • Monitor the regulatory landscape to ensure the ongoing compliance of programs, plans, processes, and practices in the areas of compensation, benefits, and HRIS.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required:

  • 10+ years of progressively increasing responsibility in a Human Resources role.
  • 5+ years of experience working in a managerial position with 4+ direct reports.
  • Desire and ability to travel regularly for acquisitions, events, and strategic site visits.
  • Prior experience working with a multi-state, high-volume hourly workforce in the service-related industry.
  • Prior experience evaluating and optimizing HR technologies.
  • Prior experience working in union environments preferred.
  • Must be a strategic thinker and leader, with a hands-on approach to problem solving and execution.
  • Strong understanding of people disciplines including HR operations, employee engagement, learning and development, compensation, benefits, compliance and DEI.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to align HR initiatives with company goals and drive measurable results.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize and professionally maintain composure and effectiveness under pressure and changing conditions.
  • Ability to manage unexpected situations as well as manage many competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated capability to interface and maintain effective relationships with all departments and employees at all levels.
