The Highlights:

The Assistant Director will be a critical member of the Recruiting and Admission team in The Theatre School, located at the Lincoln Park campus. Reporting to the Director of Admissions, the Assistant Director will have the primary responsibility for managing the admission funnel through the process and activities that support driving prospects from inquiry to admission. This position will require virtual and in-person recruitment and routine travel for recruitment and will work evenings and weekends as needed. The Assistant Director will collaborate with Theatre School faculty and staff through application, audition, and interview processes and will proactively engage with prospective students, counselors, and theatre educators and professionals. The Assistant Director and admissions team is committed to ensuring an anti-racist recruitment and admissions process and will work to center equity as a core goal in every component of this role.

What You'll Do:

  • Manage the undergraduate and graduate admission funnel through proactively communicating and engaging with prospective students and applicants throughout the admissions cycle; review prospective student credentials holistically and make decisions regarding admission in collaboration with the faculty and Director of Admissions, consistent with university policies and priorities.
  • Manage office operations, including recruitment, hiring, and supervision of student admissions staff and assist with budget oversight and management in relationship to recruitment and marketing.
  • Coordinate and participate in virtual and in-person local and national auditions and interviews, recruiting events, information sessions, and yield events.
  • Manage a local and national recruitment territory and facilitate appropriate targeted outreach efforts to affinity groups, educational institutions, and professional communities to support the enrollment goals of The Theatre School.
  • Manage, build, and maintain daily Slate CRM operations, including queries, reports, forms, templates, and events pertinent to the admissions recruitment process.
  • Initiate/oversee written and oral correspondence with prospective students, parents, applicants, and theatre educators through email, phone, social media, and in person inquiries at all stages of the application and enrollment cycle.
  • Collaborate in developing and implementing a comprehensive territory recruitment and marketing plan to attract and admit students to The Theatre School and develop processes to collect and analyze marketing and enrollment data to support decision-making and guide strategic initiatives.
  • Manage a team of student workers.
  • Assist the Director of Admission with updating and managing annual admissions budget.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Three to five years’ professional experience in admissions or higher education related position
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral presentation, and written communication skills are critical for success
  • Must have a valid driver's license and meet the eligibility requirements per the University Vehicle, Driver and Travel Safety Policy
  • Routinely lift more than 25 pounds
  • Knowledge of recruiting and admission practices for theatre/arts students
  • Skills and knowledge to develop and implement marketing and recruitment plans to enroll targeted numbers of students
  • Experience hiring, supervising and managing student employees
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Attention to detail, commitment to quality, and ability to balance multiple demands from various constituencies
  • Creativity, positive can-do attitude, flexibility, initiative, and ability to function effectively as member of a team
  • Responsive to feedback and committed to continuous improvement
  • Proficiency in Slate CRM and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal communication, organizational and project management skills
  • Strong group presentation skills
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced, creative, change-oriented and driven environment
  • Position requires evening and weekend work and local/national travel
