Position Summary: In accordance with Board-approved policies, the CFO manages budget, cash flow, and accounting functions; creates and maintains strict internal controls; prepares monthly financial statements and management reports; ensures financial compliance with grant and contract requirements; coordinates audits; and supervises accounting staff. The CFO may also supervise a variety of administrative and operations functions, as assigned.

Essential Job Functions:
- As requested by the CEO, attend meetings of the Board of Directors and serve as staff liaison to Board committees and task forces. Participate actively and thoughtfully in long-term/strategic planning discussions. Prepare and present reports, as requested, measuring performance outputs and outcomes.
- Attend major YWCA events and activities such as Leader Luncheon, Week Without Violence, Stronger Together Breakfast, Stand Against Racism, and the Annual YWCA Membership Meeting.
- Establish and maintain familiarity with YWCA USA membership agreement, mission impact framework and theory of change, strategic business plan, and key initiatives influencing YWCA Utah’s work. Educate other staff about these areas as needed and appropriate. Participate in national meetings, affinity groups, trainings, and other activities as requested.
Staff Supervision:
- Supervise assigned staff using Sanctuary principles, language, and tools.
- Create a strong, cohesive, effective team whose work is aligned with the YWCA’s mission, vision, strategic direction, core strategies, and annual work plan.
- Provide regular training (including cross-training), supportive supervision, and team-building opportunities that ensure staff learn and perform their job responsibilities well and can cover for one another during absences.
- Maintain effective communication with program/department staff to keep them informed about their own and other programs and departments as well as the YWCA as a whole.
- Foster a healthy work environment that promotes excellence, integrity, accountability, respect, affirmation, and inclusion.
- Clarify roles and responsibilities; establish clear performance expectations and reasonable work plans; arrange timely orientation and training; provide regular constructive guidance and meaningful performance reviews.
- Provide staff with the support, resources, and opportunities they need to do their jobs successfully and grow professionally.
- Promote understanding and collaboration among staff/programs/departments within and throughout the organization.
Level of Knowledge: Gain and/or maintain accurate working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and standards for nonprofit accounting, including those issued by the FASB, OMB, and AICPA. Knowledge of federal grant management requirements surrounding allowable costs, time and effort reporting, and other administrative rules under the Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards. Keep current on publications and materials related to nonprofit accounting to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Budgets and Cash Flow Management:
- Work with the CEO to develop the annual operating budgets for the YWCA and affiliated corporations, for Board approval.
- Prepare project, program, and capital budgets as needed for grant applications and other purposes.
- Prepare budget projections and pro formas, and analyze financial trends as needed.
- Project, monitor, manage, and analyze cash flow. Regularly inform CEO of cash status, highlighting any potential problems in a timely way.
Accounting Functions:
- Oversight of all accounting functions: accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash receipts, and fixed assets. Review all general ledger accounts reconciliations and monthly bank reconciliations.
- Responsible for all investment journal entries, bank account entries and reconciliations, general ledger accounting reconciliations, and all other nonstandard journal entries for all four legal entities.
- Ensure that online access to accounts is in compliance with finance policy.
- Maintain program cost allocation and cost system for accounting and billing purposes; update annually. Perform cost-benefit analyses as required.
- Monitor capital campaign contributions, pledges, and expenditures, ensuring all activity is recorded accurately and in accordance with GAAP.
- Monitor contributions to endowment and other investment funds, ensuring that the YWCA’s investment portfolio is accurately accounted for at all times.
- Track expenditures related to capital construction and improvements at a level of detail that provides the CEO and Board with relevant, timely information.
- Ensure timely billing, collection, and accounting of rent payments, tenant charges, security deposit refunds, room and board fees, child care fees, etc.
Internal Controls:
- Implement Board-approved finance and investment policies; review and recommend changes as appropriate.
- Develop systems and procedures that ensure appropriate use of YWCA funds by all staff as well as strict internal controls to safeguard all agency assets.
- Maintain strict separation of accounting systems and procedures for the YWCA and its three affiliated corporations.
Financial Statements and Reports:
- Ensure the integrity of the agency’s financial reporting system, including the Financial Edge and Raiser’s Edge accounting and database systems.
- Prepare required financial reports and payments to comply with federal, state, and local regulations and laws.
- Provide accurate, complete financial statements and management reports for the YWCA, Critchlow LLC, and YWBuilding Hope, and YWEmpowered LLC to the CEO and Board monthly and as requested.
- Help prepare, review, and submit year-end Critchlow reports and other required documentation to Utah Housing Corporation.
Audits and Tax Returns:
- Serve as primary liaison and resource person to auditors, supplying necessary reconciliations and schedules for annual independent audits.
- Prepare all financial statements and footnotes for the YWCA’s annual audited consolidated financial statements.
- Work with auditors to meet all criteria established in audits. Review tax returns for the YWCA and its three affiliated corporations and ensure timely submission.
- Distribute audited financial statements, tax returns, and other reports as required to funding sources in a timely way.
Grants and Contracts:
- Assist in timely preparation of grant applications by generating project and/or program budgets as required by funding source.
- Ensure strict financial compliance with all contracts, including the timely submission of reports, billings, and audits.
- Oversee the close out of all government contracts and ensure that quarterly reports are submitted timely.
Business Analysis, Planning, and Development:
- Conduct any necessary or requested research and analysis to enhance understanding of the YWCA as a not-for-profit business.
- Actively participate in business planning and strategy development to strengthen the current and future YWCA.
- Undertake financial analysis and planning to address operating, capital, and investment needs.
Risk Management:
- Work with insurance brokers/agents to update all insurance policies for adequate coverage on an annual basis.
- Help develop, maintain, review, and update business contingency plans designed to ensure smooth agency functioning in crisis situations.
Capital Projects and Improvements:
Plan the budgeting and financial management of any capital projects related to the current campus master plan, and capital improvements.

- Keep all necessary records to ensure that work is conducted in accordance with agency, contractual, and legal requirements.
- Know and follow all established organizational and program/department-related policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Uphold and act in accordance with YWCA mission, vision, values, strategic direction, core strategies, and annual work plan.
- Model YWCA community standards and encourage program participants, volunteers, and staff to follow them.
- Attend all required staff meetings, individual and/or group supervision, agency-wide staff and other trainings, as well as any other meetings, events, and activities as requested.
- Maintain all certifications and licensing related to role, program licensing, and grant standards.

Ideal candidates will have the following:
- Knowledge and experience in administrative and/or non-profit operations, programs, policies, and protocols.
- Familiarity with basic budgeting and bookkeeping.
- Understanding of, and commitment to, equity, anti-oppression, and trauma-informed philosophies.
Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications include a combined 5 or more years of education and experience:
- BA/BS degree required, preferably B.S. in Accounting, a Certified Public Accountant CPA designation is required. MBA or Masters in Public Accountancy strongly preferred.
- Public accounting audit experience is strongly preferred, with Single Audit and nonprofit audit experience.
- Excellent accounting skills and a minimum of 5-7 years strong, varied financial management experience.
- Supervisory and management skills essential, with general nonprofit management experience preferred.
- The ability to think strategically, develop plans, and execute and evaluate them successfully.
- Collaborative team player who works effectively and constructively with colleagues and staff across programs and departments.
- Excellent administrative skills, which may include contract administration and compliance, program development and evaluation.
- Excellent computer skills including proficiency with MS Office and database software relevant to the position.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Fluency in English (speaking and writing) required, with fluency in Spanish helpful.
- Flexible, able to work evenings and weekends, and to participate in regular on-call rotation if required by position.
- Ability to work respectfully with people of diverse ages, races, ethnicities, nationalities, socio-economic levels, beliefs, and lifestyles.
- Must be able to pass BCI, meet I-9 requirements, and, if driving on agency business, have a valid Utah driver’s license, current automobile insurance, and pass a motor vehicle record check.

Physical/Sensory Demands: Work is generally performed in a safe and comfortable office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: sit for long periods of time; use computer to enter data; use telephone to converse with customers and employees; perform repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement. Travel to attend conferences, training, outreach and other events occurs routinely.
