Assistant Director Academic Advising & Student Success

The Assistant Director of Academic Advising and Student Success within the College of Business Administration is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Advising team in the Tafel Center for Student Success. The Assistant Director of Academic Advising and Student Success is responsible for supervising a subset of the academic advisors who have business functional area portfolios. The Assistant Director of Academic Advising and Student Success executes the business student development strategy developed and defined by the Director of the Tafel Center for Student Success and the CBA Associate Dean. The Assistant Director of Academic Advising and Student Success will work closely with the Director of the Tafel Center for Student Success to create and monitor systems to ensure the CBA staff identifies and assesses unique student needs and works with students to implement successful strategies for program completion. This can include the
creation and implementation of a student support center that encompasses peer tutoring and peer advising. Additionally, the Assistant Director of Academic Advising and Student Success will be responsible for the creation and implementation of a peer mentoring program for transfer students and under-represented students. Finally, the incumbent will be responsible for the research, development, and assessment of student success strategies and activities, will monitor and provide regular reporting of student persistence and retention rates, and prepare and present workshops on a variety of student success related topics. This position will interface closely with the Career Development team to ensure that the two teams are functioning synergistically in their delivery of services to students. The Assistant Director of Academic Advising and Student Success will also work closely with the Director of International programs to align advising practices to promote study abroad and other globalization experiences. The Incumbent will work with students who may require advanced/specialized counseling due to health challenges, learning disabilities, or other non-routine circumstances. The Assistant Director of Academic Advising and Student Success will, in consultation with the Director of the Tafel Center for Student Success and Associate Dean, address difficult situations involving students. The Assistant Director of Academic Advising and Student Success provides academic advising services to approximately 150 business students. BA/BS required, MA preferred. Requires 5 -7 years of experience in higher education administration, including advising experience.

Manages, mentors, and trains academic advisors. Provides effective academic counseling and personal and professional developmental workshops for students. Assists with strategic plan, polices, and procedures; facilitates strategic planning and goal implementation for assigned area.
