THE OPPORTUNITY
Based in San Francisco and reporting to the Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications, you will be responsible for supporting the development and execution of the corporate communications strategy. You have a strong understanding of the drug discovery and development process in the life sciences sector and a passion for story-telling to communicate company strategy and impact. You will bring established relationships with relevant media outlets; internal communications experience; and the ability to influence others and drive alignment across diverse cross-functional teams. You have experience partnering with and advising senior leaders, and be comfortable driving executive visibility activities. Importantly, you possess a self-starting, entrepreneurial spirit and exhibit strong problem-solving skills.
This is an onsite position in our San Francisco headquarters with an expectation of 3-4 days per week in office.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Partner with the SVP of Corporate Communications to define corporate communication strategies that support business objectives and convey the unique value of Vir and its platforms and programs.
- Develop PR materials, including press releases, Q&As, website content, executive talking points, fact sheets, etc., in collaboration with colleagues in Investor Relations, Legal, Alliance Management, Business Development and other parts of the organization.
- Build and enhance relationships with external media outlets including news, business, and industry trade publications, with both traditional and digital media; garner local, regional and national coverage of Vir to meet objectives.
- Partner with Human Resources, Employee Resource Groups and other important internal stakeholders to drive alignment in communication across the organization.
- Work in partnership with R&D Communications to develop multi-channel strategies to share stories of Vir's impact and potential to help people living with a range of infectious diseases and cancers.
- Help drive Vir's website and social media channel strategies and content.
- Identify external opportunities, including media interviews, speaking engagements at industry conferences, and other forums to showcase Vir thought leadership.
- Actively manage and direct external agency partners and drive the best value from these relationships.
WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelors' degree with a minimum of 12 years of professional experience in Communications in the pharmaceutical/biotech area is required.
- Demonstrated experience crafting and executing successful traditional media, social media, and internal communications strategies.
- Strong written skills in corporate and scientific content.
- Experience supporting senior leaders with executive communications and thought leadership strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate, facilitate, and organize across multiple groups and levels of an organization, including direct collaboration with C-suite colleagues.
- Understanding of SEC and FDA regulations affecting communications.
- Must be located in the San Francisco area.
WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE OFFER
The expected salary range for this position is $217,500.00 to $318,000.00. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors.
