DescriptionBurns & McDonnell is looking for a Distribution Engineer for electric utility design engineering. This position will provide development and design services on 2.4kV to 34.5kV overhead and underground utility distribution projects. This position will be responsible for the development an array of challenging items including the drafting and design of engineering deliverables on multiple complex utility distribution projects. This position will require interface with utility clients and collaboration with multiple offices. This exciting opportunity will provide latitude for continued professional growth as a part of our established mentorship programs.Responsible for preparation and development of distribution voltage construction packages for both overhead and underground construction.Experience includes knowledge of overhead and underground construction methods, knowledge of distribution system equipment, and utilizing GIS information to aide in design.Plans, schedules, conducts and coordinates work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, adaptation and modification of standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria.Performs work which involves conventional engineering practices but may involve a variety of complex features.Requires general knowledge of precedents in specialty areas and familiarity with basic principles and practices in related specialties.May coordinate departmental and divisional project studies and report preparation assignments.This position requires an experienced and competent individual capable of successfully solving difficult problems that require adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria.Must be capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered.Assignments may include:Design distribution facilitates utilizing client standards including overhead and underground distribution facilities including distribution equipment installation, feeder replacement, cable replacement, new feeder design and others as assigned.Routing, design and execution of distribution line projects.Prepare proposals and engineering/project cost estimates.Prepare calculations and equipment specifications.Assess feasibility or soundness of proposed applications when data is insufficient, or testing is advisable.Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to less experienced staff members.Regularly meet and correspond with clients or outside personnel.Some marketing responsibilities.Other duties as assigned.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program required.Minimum 3 years distribution experience (completion of master's degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of experience).Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Knowledge of overhead and underground construction methods and distribution system equipment.Experience conducting distribution field inspections.Understanding of distribution power flow.Experience with various distribution design tools, as well as GIS to aide in design.Knowledge of the NESC or GO95/GO128 rules and how they apply to distribution design.Knowledge regarding easements, right-of-way, and permitting.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Capable of devising new, more efficient approaches to solving problems and processes.Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize work.Knowledge of utility telecommunications, distributed energy resource integration, and advanced distribution technologies is a plus.Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification strongly preferred.Compensation$100,000.00-155,000.00 AnnuallyThe expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location.
