EPI is an international non-profit organization dedicated to addressing critical conservation issues through field-based partnerships between local experts and high school students. We engage adolescent youth from local communities and youth and teachers from around the world in applied hands-on science and conservation as they learn about and help protect threatened species and habitats. Job Summary:

The Systems and IT Director is responsible for leading the organization’s technology and systems strategy, focusing on maximizing the use, efficiency, and alignment of all of EPI’s platforms. They will ensure robust data security and efficient management of existing platforms, as well as overseeing the integration of technologically innovative strategies, including artificial intelligence projects, to support the achievement of EPI’s objectives. This role will work across departments within the organization to identify needs, research solutions, implement new or adapt existing platforms, and provide ongoing training & support to users.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Technology Strategy and Implementation: Develop and execute a comprehensive technology strategy that aligns with the organization’s goals, focusing on maximizing the use and integration of Salesforce and other core platforms.
  2. Automation and AI Initiatives: Lead, prioritize, and implement automation initiatives by working with key staff to understand needs and develop solutions that enhance efficiency and performance across the organization.
  3. Communication Platforms Management: Ensure the effective implementation and management of all internal and external communication platform solutions to ensure they are cloud-based, can be integrated with Salesforce, and maintain an uptime SLA of 99.9%.
  4. Project Management: Develop and implement systems projects to support the work of our program, marketing & communications, finance, development, and human resources teams. Collaborate closely with departmental leaders, internal teams in the United States, Mexico, and Costa Rica, as well as external stakeholders, to ensure effective coordination and cooperation.
  5. Data Security and Compliance: Design and implement robust data security policies and protocols to protect organizational data and ensure compliance with industry standards.
  6. Training and Development: Develop and oversee ongoing training programs for staff on utilizing LMSs and AI to build internal capacity and expertise.
  7. Hardware Management: Design and implement a long-term strategy for hardware management, maintenance, and replacement to support the organization’s technological needs.
  8. Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop the systems team, including the IT coordinator, the contracted Salesforce Admin, and other contractors as needed. Promote effective team communication and foster a culture of high performance, support, and innovation.

Qualifications:

Required

  1. A minimum of 5 years of experience in IT management, systems integration, and innovation (preferably with a non-profit organization).
  2. Master’s degree (or additional 5 years of IT experience) in a related field (e.g., digital and technology functions, emerging technologies, information technologies).
  3. A minimum of 5 years of experience using and administering Salesforce, project management, and data analysis tools.
  4. 3 years of experience managing IT teams both in-person and remotely with the ability to inspire & empower.
  5. Strong analytical and strategic planning skills.
  6. Ability to innovate and creatively problem solve.
  7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  8. Fully bilingual (Spanish-English).
  9. Commitment to EPI's mission and values.
  10. Ability to collaborate effectively in a diverse and dynamic environment working with interdisciplinary and multicultural teams.

Preferred

  1. Experience with experiential education.
  2. Experience with travel companies or ecotourism.

Schedule & Location:

The Systems and Innovation Director is a full-time (40 hours/week) position with office hours typically between 9am-5pm at any of the EPI office locations (Missoula, MT, USA, La Paz, Mexico, or Heredia, Costa Rica) with occasional travel for conferences, site visits, and workshops. Employment eligibility is contingent on the ability to legally work in the country where the position will be located (MX, CR or US).

Compensation:

Local market-based starting salary range according to working location and DOE: US - $73,895-76,432 USD, MX - $49,207-52,852 USD, CR - $47,449-49,852 USD. In addition, this position is eligible for a generous benefits package that includes paid time off, sick leave, holidays, health insurance, retirement, and professional development funds.
