General Information:

James Madison University (JMU) Procurement Services is accepting applications for a professional Buyer Senior. The Department of Procurement Services is within JMU's Division of Administration and Finance and is responsible for the procurement and all contractual agreements of goods, services and construction for the University. In addition, Procurement Services oversees the University's Supplier Diversity initiative and all university related eVA processes. Procurement Services is committed to facilitating the purchase of high-quality goods and services at competitive prices in support of the University's mission. Salary will be dependent upon the qualifications of the successful applicant.

Duties and Responsibilities:

*Provide efficient and responsive customer service in facilitating the purchase of goods and services that meet the needs of the university.
*Facilitate purchases according to applicable laws and policies/procedures.
*Negotiate term contracts and various agreements, serve as vendor advocate to increase total vendor base of the university which includes providing opportunity and education to small, woman and minority owned businesses.
*Conduct research to ensure appropriate knowledge of potential contracts, products and vendors and provide advice, guidance and interpretation assistance to campus departments in regard to contracts and purchases.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications:
* Ability to obtain a professional buyer certification within one-year of hire
* Be highly proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel
* Possess strong verbal and written communication skills
* Detail oriented
* Extremely organized
* Maintain confidentiality
Additional Considerations:
* Technical writing experience and use of web based systems.
* Have experience in data analysis/market research
* Demonstrate professionalism at all times
* Possess project management skills
* Demonstrate ethical reasoning and be adaptable to change
* Possess strong interpersonal skills to maintain a high functioning team dynamic
* Negotiation skills
* Excellent time management skills
* Existing National or Virginia Public Procurement Certifications such as VCCO, NIGP-CPP, CPBB, or CUPO
* Extensive experience in Virginia or other state/public Procurement
* Extensive experience in utilizing e-procurement or another automated purchasing system (eVA, Peoplesoft, etc.)
