Job Summary:


The Executive Director of Data Analytics and Insights has overall responsibility, and will serve as the leader, for a campus-wide strategic initiative called the Data Analytics Collaborative (DAC). The purpose of the DAC is to establish a framework that supports the data analytics functions taking place in units across the campus, and in support of the campus’ decentralized operating model. This framework is intended to bring data analysts together to share subject matter expertise as thought partners, support best practices, and stay current on trends in the field. In addition, the DAC is charged with creating a role-based single point of entry for all campus constituents to access strategically valuable data analytics work products.

This position is one of a highly collaborative leader, partnering with data analytics leaders across the CU Anschutz Medical Campus to understand needs, operational data flows, and the influencing work processes. They work within the collaborative virtual data organization on the campus to strategically develop the tools and processes to support these needs.

The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is a unique campus within the University of Colorado system, with missions of Education, Research, Patient Care, and Community Service. Data is a key strategic element used to inform operational decisions and measure strategic initiatives. This leader, and the services they provide, will play an important role in accelerating the development of campus-wide data analytics to promote data-informed decision making.

To be successful in this role, the incumbent hired will collaboratively bring business units together to facilitate the delivery of data analytics to university constituents, leaders and executives. This position and collaborative entities help advance the campus’ missions by facilitating conversations, initiating cross-functional analysis and integration, helping to improve data accessibility, and increasing analytical capabilities across the CU Anschutz Medical Campus.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Analytics Collaborative:

Accelerates the development of campus-wide data analytics to promote data-informed decision making by carrying out the following:

  • Partners with others on campus involved in data analytics through the formation of a collaborative framework to share knowledge and best practices.
  • Partners with the Information Strategy and Services (ISS) AVC for Information, Data Empowerment and Analytics (AVC IDEA) by collecting requirements from data experts on campus to help inform back-end decisions around infrastructure, data elements, data architecture, and analytics tools.
  • Serves as a conduit between the data analysts, SMEs and data trustees and the AVC IDEA in support of campus data governance and enablement.
  • Establishes and maintains a navigable, hierarchy-based repository for strategically valuable data analytics work products and resources that are being produced in the business and academic units across the campus. This single point of entry should be available to all campus employees through role-based provisioning, and the work products should adhere to campus brand standards and utilize governed/defined data.
  • Assists with troubleshooting, analyzing, resolving, monitoring and documenting complex user inquiries, as needed.
  • Participates in new and established cross-functional data initiatives to support process improvements, programs, policy reviews, and contributions to data governance.

Strategic Data Analytics Development:

Through the supervision of the Director of Strategic Data Analytics:

  • Supports a wide range of Budget, Planning and Campus Strategy initiatives, reporting and analysis projects.

Business Process Optimization:

Through the supervision of the Director of Business Process Optimization:

  • Provide implementation support for the campus-wide enterprise performance management system, Anaplan.
  • Guide the development and administration of the Anaplan Center of Excellence (COE) to build a robust connected planning framework.
  • Direct activities related to ongoing Anaplan system administration and optimization, which includes help desk support, building and/or reviewing new planning models, and reporting.
  • Provides support as continual enhancements and changes are made to existing campus processes.

  • Key partners for strategic development and operational execution of the campus data analytics strategy for the Executive Director of Data Analytics and Insights are the AVC for Information, Data Empowerment and Analytics (AVC IDEA), Vice Chancellor of Information Strategy and Services (VCISS) and CIO, the AVC for Information Security and IT Compliance (AVCISIC), the AVC for Enterprise Architecture (AVCEA), CU System Office University Information Services (UIS), Central Services Administration/Academic Services Administration business leaders, Senior Administration within the schools and colleges, data stewards, and key data delivery SMEs.



Work Location:


Hybrid – this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Sciences, Information Systems, Higher Education, Business, or a closely related field.
    • Substitution : 4 years of professional or high-level technical experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree.
  • At least 8 years of progressive leadership including building senior executive relationships and experience setting the vision and strategy for a complex data driven analytics portfolio.
  • At least 8 years of relevant experience designing and developing reports and dashboards in a complex environment with multiple business systems, stakeholders, initiatives, and varying quality of data.
  • Experience with systems processes, best practices and operational metrics/analytics related to business and academic operations.

  • Master’s degree in a relevant subject area, such as Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or Data Analytics.

Anticipated Pay Range:


The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as $160,000 - $200,000.

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
