Horizon House is undergoing a digital transformation, and the Director, Innovation & Technology plays a key role fostering the development of technology-based solutions that enhance the resident experience and allow staff to effectively collaborate and efficiently make use of technology to meet business needs. The person in this role leverages their background in IT Operations, Project Management, Enterprise/IT Service Management, Cybersecurity, and Compliance to develop strategies and initiatives that make living and working in the community an outstanding experience.

To be effective in this position a broad understanding of enterprise, consumer, and A/V technologies is required since the person in this role will be leading teams that support both resident sponsored events and activities as well as the technologies used in our business operations. As a member of the senior leadership team the Director, Innovation and Technology needs to be able to express a vision for how technology can be used to help the business best meet the challenges of an evolving senior living community.

The Director, Innovation and Technology ensures all enterprise systems, A/V systems, networks, end user devices, cloud services, and system hardware/software are operating effectively and fully optimized. The director is also responsible for establishing and maintaining a high level of customer service to support staff and residents and to serve as a key thought partner in helping to define and execute the technology strategies that will best support the community now and into the future. The director must be technically proficient to independently diagnose, modify, repair and/or confidently direct internal and external resources to resolve problems effectively, efficiently and economically.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Identifies, develops, and implements opportunities for utilizing technology for improved efficiency, connectivity, and quality of work and resident life.
  • Stays updated on IT trends and emerging technologies.
  • Identifies, proposes, develops, plans, and implements broad multi-year strategies utilizing technology products, systems, and solutions.
  • Prepares and manages technology-related operating, capital, and project budgets.
  • Identifies, evaluates, and recommends enterprise and department specific systems, facilitates implementation, training, and provides support as necessary all with the goal of improving the organization’s services.
  • Aligns the company’s technology resources with the organization’s short- and long-term goals.
  • Creates and oversees high-level KPIs for the Innovation & Technology department.
  • Develops and implements IT policies, procedures, and best practices, organization-wide.
  • Initiates and manages relationships with vendors, contractors, and service providers.
  • Evaluates and executes technology contracts for products and services.
  • Monitors cybersecurity and responds to threats and breaches.

Secondary Job Duties

  • Completes other duties and projects as assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, business management, or a related field; MBA or other relevant degree is a plus.
  • Ten (10) years of progressive experience leading high-functioning technology teams supporting a broad user base.
  • Five (5) years of experience leading and managing IT teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment that achieves departmental and organizational goals and objectives.
  • Experience with Project Management; PMP certification is desired.
  • Strong, practical understanding of IT Service Management (ITSM) or Enterprise Service Management (ESM) and experience managing a service management tool like Servicely.ai, Service Now, or similar.
  • Strong working understanding of common cybersecurity frameworks like NIST, CIS, HITRUST, COBIT, or PCI-DSS.
  • Experience deploying, managing, and fostering user adoption of enterprise software and related services.
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft 365 and its related applications and services.
  • Strong written, verbal, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in an organized manner and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to motivate staff and delegate appropriately.
  • Ability to set clear priorities and goals and to problem-solve both individual and organization-wide issues.
