More Than Words (MTW) seeks a dedicated and detail-oriented Housing Specialist to support young adults in navigating and securing housing opportunities. This part-time, fixed-term role is an ideal fit for someone passionate about housing advocacy and youth engagement. The role will involve helping young adults access various housing programs, ensuring timely completion of applications, and guiding them through the housing process. This role reports to the Director of Advocacy and Community Engagement.
Key Responsibilities of a Housing Specialist include:

  • Work 10-15 hours per week (flexible scheduling with one required in-person meeting per week).
  • Meet with staff and young adults onsite to review housing options, including Section 8, MRVP, FYI, RRH, and PSH.
  • Assist young adults in completing housing applications and gathering necessary documentation.
  • Proactively seek out housing opportunities with private landlords as needed.
  • Ensure young adults adhere to deadlines for application submissions and documentation.
  • Educate youth on tenant rights before they move into their housing unit.
  • Follow up with young adults to ensure they are housed appropriately.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of all housing-related activities and efforts.
Qualifications:
  • Experience or knowledge of housing programs such as Section 8, MRVP, FYI, RRH, and PSH.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, especially when working with youth.
  • Ability to manage deadlines and handle sensitive documentation.
  • Comfortable conducting in-person meetings with staff and young adults.
  • A passion for supporting youth in their journey toward independent living.
