Who we are
The Sharing Network does something about the loneliness crisis by bringing together older, homebound, lower-income residents of public housing in Brooklyn, NY, through phone-based activity and conversation groups. These connections foster joy and create a sense of community.
Volunteer role
We are seeking a volunteer art teacher to lead a hands-on art group that meets for an hour each week during an 8-week term. Can you teach sculpture, collage, drawing, painting or needlework to non-artists in their 60s, 70s and 80s?
Here’s the challenge. All our meetings take place on the phone and we don’t use video. Whoever takes this position must be able to talk participants through each session without benefit of visual cues. You don't see them, they don't see youl
We make it easier by sending out lesson plans by mail before that show students what to expect. It works. Other volunteer art teachers have led amazing groups by phone. Can you?
Requirements
- Experience as art teacher at any level

- Warmth, humor, imagination
