Job Description

Under general supervision, performs routine and complex work related to the assembly, repair and calibration of test and measurement equipment. Performs the verification of force standards used within the field service organization. Provides feedback on the analysis of calibration data, procedures, and modifications to training for the proper implementation of those standards. Calibrates customers or Instron reference standards to ASTM, ISO, or special calibration specifications.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Calibrates force transducers in Instron’s in-house force laboratory.
  2. Assemble, repair, and distribute calibration equipment to the field service organization.
  3. Maintains proper filing system to ensure documentation for Force Standards.
  4. Assists in the creation and validation of work instructions required to support both in-house and field calibration activities.
  5. Assists in maintaining a clean work environment by participating in good housekeeping activities within the laboratory.

Qualifications

  1. Basic understanding of the calibration of precision force transducers, utilizing both primary and secondary standard systems, normally acquired through attainment of an associate’s degree in technical disciplines or 4 - 5 years related experience.
  2. Some knowledge in Strain Gage theory, calibration of electronic instrumentation and quality control discipline, and a working knowledge of Transducer assembly.
  3. Demonstrated strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to operate/use general hand and power tools, instruments, and testing apparatus common to the electronic and instrumentation fields.
  4. Possess good mathematical skills and the ability to communicate and work in a highly effective team environment.
  5. Must be able to function effectively from verbal instruction and establish work schedules with minimal direction.
  6. Must constantly strive to keep abreast of technological advances. Familiarity with the operation of both electromechanical and servo-hydraulic testing systems and be capable of adjustment/repair of the Load Weighing system.

Working Conditions

Normal plant environment with some exposure to dirt, dust, noise and grease, operational equipment, and the hazards associated with the application of force measuring Instrumentation.
