Opportunity Overview:
MJA Design is a family-owned, custom interior design firm specializing in Kitchen & Bath. A key differentiator for MJA is that they are not selling other manufacturers’ cabinets. They manufacture their own cabinets in house, making them one of the few truly custom kitchen & bath firms in the DC area for 30+ years.
They are looking for a VP of Operations to work under the founder & owner, providing an extra set of hands & learning the business. In the coming years, the plan is for this individual to take over the business.
The Role:
As an owner-in-training, you’ll work under Matt, learning the day-to-day of the business. You’ll focus on driving the business by utilizing KPIs to sharpen performance, managing showroom operations, designing & managing ~20-30 projects/year, and ensuring that every client has an exceptional MJA Design, Inc experience.
The Responsibilities:
- Design & project management: oversee design processes, project scoping & estimation, vendor & subcontractor coordination, quality control, project scheduling
- Business leadership: strategic planning, succession planning, financial oversight, hiring & performance management of subcontractors
- Client relationship management & business development: client engagement, new business development, sales strategy, brand ambassador
- Business operations : operational efficiency, systems & technology, legal & regulatory compliance, inventory & resource management
The Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience as a Sales Designer (or similar) in an interior design business, preferably with a specialization in kitchen & bathroom design
- Interest in buying the business & taking over as owner in the future
- Project Management Skills
- Financial Acumen & interest managing business financials, including budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and profitability analysis
- Strong interpersonal & communication skills
- Proven track record of driving business growth through new client acquisition, sales strategy development, and business development initiatives
- Ability to contribute to and implement strategic plans, including business growth strategies, operational improvements, and long-term vision alignment with ownership transition.
- Operational Efficiency Expertise
- Expertise in managing relationships with vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure timely project deliveries
