The Health and Safety (H&S) Manager is responsible for the implementation, control, and compliance with Company and Federal Safety policies, procedures, and regulations. The H&S Manager provides the knowledge and skills to generate and promote a positive health and safety culture within the workplace. This represents a key role in helping control occupational risk.
The H&S Manager will ensure that all safety legislation is adhered to and that policies and practices are adopted. The H&S Manager will develop and implement all aspects of environmental health and safety, including all applicable regulatory, plant, and corporate H&S related policies and procedures critical to the success of GSI Service Group Inc.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Accountable for compliance with all applicable regulatory, plant, and corporate H&S related policies and procedures.
- Accountable for Emergency Response functions, roles, and responsibilities in accordance with the site emergency response plan.
- Supports management/supervision to ensure all site associates understand and comply with all applicable regulatory, plant, and corporate H&S, security, and related policies and procedures.
- Leads and maintains an integrated safety management system for Division H&S policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines.
- Ensures that company personnel are adequately trained with respect to H&S matters.
- Establishes H&S goals for the Division and develops programs to achieve the goals.
- Coordinates internal audits as required to ensure the safety management system is being adequately followed by both management and the workforce.
- Leads in-house training about health and safety issues and risks relating to internal and/or external incident investigations and ensures integration of the new learning.
- Submits on-time reports to the correct department and/or regulatory agency.
- Maintains and promotes a team relationship within the site operations team.
- Authors and/or reviews H&S plans.
- Performs such other duties as may be required from time to time.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or comparable certification.
- BS in Safety or Industrial Hygiene, or 5 years related experience with H&S.
- Familiarity with the EM385 1-1.
- Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, Department of Defense (DoD), State environmental regulations, standards, and permit requirements.
- Strong leadership, managerial, technical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong command of MS Office suite of programs to include Word and Excel.
- Must be able to work independently and have strong time management skills.
