(Student) Financial Aid Assistant
WORK LOCATION: Grand Rapids - Lettinga Campus
DEPARTMENT: Financial Aid Services-dnu
POSITION PAY RANGE: $12.00 - 12.50, Hourly
TARGET HIRING RANGE: Actual pay offered will be commensurate with candidate qualifications and experience, the type of role, pay equity and available funding.
SUMMARY:
This position acts as a general assistant to the department, performing clerical office functions related to daily operations. This position acts as the first contact with students entering the Financial Aid Office. The Financial Aid Office places a high priority on GREAT customer service. These responsibilities are performed in an ethical manner consistent with the University's mission, vision, and values which include diversity, equity and inclusion.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for creating, maintaining and updating files and record keeping systems.
- Generate reports, memorandums, correspondence, presentation materials, spreadsheets and graphics, and other materials using various software programs.
- Sort and distribute incoming mail and faxes.
- Copy and collate documents.
- Assemble informational packets.
- Assist with special events and functions as needed.
- Responsible for greeting visitors, as well as answering and routing incoming calls. Ability to perform student outreach calls and answer general FA questions.
- Schedule and confirm appointments.
- Handle sensitive financial documents and maintain appropriate confidentiality.
- Possess critical thinking skills to conduct special projects, data analysis, research and assignments as needed.
- Provide GREAT customer service, anticipating and exceeding the needs of our customers. Possess the skills to professionally diffuse difficult situations.
- Demonstrate and promote the University Cultural Values.
- Understand and abide by all external and internal regulations and policies. This includes NCAA, GLIAC and national affiliations associated within athletics or other role specific regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours as an undergraduate student or 3 credit hours as a graduate student while meeting the standards of academic progress.
- Experience in office setting preferred but not required
- Demonstrated ability to work accurately and effectively with computerized data systems (PC and mainframe).
- Excellent interpersonal skills that transcend diverse audiences; communicating to university customers with positive attitudes toward change, confidentiality, and conflict resolution.
- Demonstrated motivational and problem solving capabilities with a high degree of integrity, ethics, and dedication to the mission of the University.
- Business office environment. Prolonged sitting and standing. Use of personal computer and telephone (eye and hand strain).
- Some travel between locations may be required (own transportation). No regular lifting requirements.
