A Brief Overview
The Director Software Engineering develops and communicates team/area direction, vision and strategy and develops and promotes strong partnerships with IT teams and business partners (both internal and external) with a focus on collaboration and direct communication.
The Director Software Engineering is responsible for leading other leaders to build and deliver value according to the mission for each particular team. They ensure that teams and products are aligned with product owners and business priorities such that functional capabilities and technology innovations deliver key enablers of the business vision. They also collaborate with other solutions delivery leaders to establish the team expenses and capital spending and set goals to ensure the success of the team.
What You Will Do
- Provide leadership and management to optimize high performance teams, new talent and future leaders; work includes organizational structure work in alignment with targeting operating model; team integration, accountability for culture building, coaching, training and development (for leaders and individual contributors).
- Responsible for setting the technical direction for their respective platforms and collaborating with senior leadership across the business and IT to assure alignment to vision, strategy and goals; effectively articulate vision and values to team.
- Own the creation of development practices and code quality of projects and deliverables.
- Lead technology innovation and promote forward thinking within the respective platforms.
- Partner with procurement in the vendor selection process.
- Perform all human resource management responsibilities for direct reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Comply with all policies and standards.
What You Will Need
- Bachelor's Degree preferred.
- 10+ years software engineering required.
- Experience with management and supervisory practices; human resource practices; safety requirements and procedures; standard office practices.
- Experience with IT architecture and design concepts; software development lifecycle; project management; advanced and systems administration practices and principles; planning, design, and problem resolution.
- Experience with managing others and applying management principles to practical work situations; manage projects and programs.
- Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Microsoft Visual Studio, GIT (Medium proficiency).
- Deep knowledge of software engineering practices (Medium proficiency).
- Demonstrated skill with dealing with ambiguity, critical thinking, business acumen, organizational agility, strong problem solving abilities, and executive presence; selected candidate must have excellent communication/collaboration skills and the ability to clearly articulate a vision for the future across a broad spectrum of audiences. (High proficiency).
