Responsibilities
  • Works within software systems to ensure employee and employer payroll taxes are calculated correctly.
  • Handles tax-related employee questions working in multiple states across the U.S.
  • Produces and reviews audit reports to identify and resolve employee tax setup issues.
  • Ensures accuracy of employer federal, state and local tax setup and timely remittance to avoid tax penalties.
  • Reconciles and balances monthly, quarterly and annual payroll tax files utilizing the provided software systems.
  • Maintains employer SUI tax rates and state max tax rates across all systems.
  • Establishes new accounts for state and local tax agencies across multiple states.
  • Cross-trains on other aspects within the payroll team and serves as back-up when needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years working as a payroll specialist or business tax accountant.
  • Knowledge of tax processing and compliance laws associated with federal, multi-state and local taxes.
  • Strong skill level and expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Problem solver and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work accurately under deadline pressure.
  • Service-oriented and collaborative attitude.

Preferred

  • CPP (certified payroll professional), FPC (fundamental payroll certification) or CPA (certified public accountant) certification.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft application, version 9.1 or higher.
  • Experience with payroll tax software such as ADP SmartCompliance, MasterTax or BSI.
  • Experience with project integration and/or acquisitions.
