POSITION SUMMARY:
Assures that company is building quality products in the most efficient and productive way. Conceptualizes and improves manufacturing and automated processes. Supports manufacturing processes with proper documentation, such as work instructions, quality plans, standard operating procedures etc. with a LEAN manufacturing mentality.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develops automation manufacturing processes and designs appropriate robotics, machines, equipment, controls and material handling, fixturing and parts movement to assure 100% quality and productivity.
Reduce downtime/increase operational availability.
- Assures customer satisfaction through complete and on-time delivery by implementation of lean manufacturing techniques, quality and cost reduction programs, visual controls, and plant performance measures.
- Design, improve and implement PLC/operator interface programs using Allen Bradley software, or other company directed software as needed.
Assures worker safety through appropriate tools, equipment and work environment, and by developing safe work processes. Assures MIOSHA compliance in all areas of responsibility.
Works with Product Engineering to assure efficient and cost-effective manufacturability of all products designed. Confirms Product Engineer's product prints and specifications for manufacturability.
Works with Purchasing Department to evaluate supplier compliance and manufacturing capabilities.
Recommends and implements capital investment and improvement projects within areas of responsibility.
Assures compliance with all Company policies and State and Federal regulations.
Manages Engineering Change Notice (ECN) process. Prepares Engineering Change Notices. May update product drawings.
Prepares / creates documentation for internal and external customers (for example, work instructions, quality plans, corrective actions, etc.)
Partners with Operations to accomplish their mutual goals and responsibilities. Problem-solves with manufacturing team.
Occasionally assists in production.
Communicates with customers regarding engineering changes.
Works with suppliers in reference to manufacturing improvements.
Delivers and picks up prototypes from suppliers.
May assist with building/modifying prototypes to print.
May draw prints in CAD, both 2D and 3D.
May shuttle parts within facility using a hilo, pallet jack, etc.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Advanced CAD (2D and 3D) skills required.
- Intermediate PLC, robotic (Fanuc) and vision system skills required
- Intermediate to advanced MS skills required including Excel, Word, etc.
- Must be self-starter and motivated to bring projects to successful completion independently and on time
- Must be a team player, willing to pitch in and help other team members when needed
- Excellent communication skills: written, verbal, and listening
- Ability to work in a multi-tasking environment
- Valid hilo license and Michigan driver's license
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Engineering required.
- Two years manufacturing engineering experience.
- Three plus years PLC experience.
- Previous experience with powder coat line is a plus.
- Hands-on equipment experience, such as drill press, saws, welding equipment required.
- Machine shop experience preferred.
- Valid Michigan driver's license.
