Role and Responsibilities
We're looking for a talented Senior Director of Engineering to enhance our eCommerce Fulfilment platform. As a Senior Director of Engineering, you will work cross functionally with the Product, Quality Assurance, Data Analysis and Reporting teams. You will help architect solutions to problems and lead the development efforts.
Responsibilities:
  • Gain understanding of our eCommerce platform micro-services and ability to come up with solutions for our growing fulfilment and Omni-channel needs
  • Work closely with talented Software Engineers across our US and India locations to solve challenging problems aimed at ensuring a seamless fulfilment experience for our customers
  • Manage interactions with internal and external partner teams including alignment with Global teams
  • Take projects from scoping requirements through actual launch of the project as a team
  • Mentor and groom Software Engineers and help them to produce great code
  • Own budget operations on resource and infrastructure spends and ensure we stay within budget
  • Share technical knowledge and build best practices across teams
  • Be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on one or more technologies in our organization.
  • Set up monitoring dashboards, alerts and other technical operations related items for the micro-services you own
  • Setting up relevant SLAs with operations and delivering on them
  • Lead the team in providing support for issues found in Production, and to come up with creative short term and long term solutions
Skills and Qualifications
  • Minimum 15 years' professional experience in software development
  • Expert knowledge of Software Engineering best practices and the Software Development Life Cycle including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Experience creating high level designs based on the requirements, documenting the designs and mentoring junior members of the team
  • Expertise with third party integrations and building fault tolerant resilient systems
  • Experience with eCommerce Inventory, Fulfilment and/or logistics systems is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud based frameworks.
  • Proficient in web technologies including:
    • Java
    • Node.js and frameworks like Express or Hapi
    • SQL (e.g. Postgres)
    • NoSQL (e.g. MongoDB or RethinkDB)
    • Message queues (e.g. RabbitMQ)
    • Caching frameworks (e.g. Redis)
  • Experience in mentoring and leading teams
  • Strong analytical and programming skills
  • Excellent problem solving and system design skills
  • Strong understanding of Computer Science fundamentals
  • Attention to detail and striving for perfection
  • Bachelors / Master's Degree in Computer Science or related field

The salary range for this role, for candidates based in NYC/California, is expected to be between $275,000 and $325,000. Actual pay will be determined considering factors such as relevant skills and experience, and comparison to other employees in the role.
