Potomac Crescent Waldorf School is seeking a full-time Director of Administration to join our dedicated staff and vibrant community at our newly renovated school in historic Old Town Alexandria near Washington, D.C. This role is accountable to the PCWS Board of Directors. The position includes the following responsibilities:
- Leadership & Oversight: Lead administrative staff and manage external contractors to ensure cohesive communication and operational excellence.
- Strategic Coordination: Act as the primary liaison between faculty, board, and administration; coordinate strategic meetings and initiatives.
- Community Engagement: Serve as the main point of contact for the community; facilitate events and ensure a welcoming atmosphere.
- Policy & Compliance: Oversee the development and maintenance of key policies and handbooks; ensure regulatory compliance and safety standards.
- Financial Management & Human Resources: Oversee financial operations, including budgeting, accounting, and financial reporting. Ensure alignment of financial management with the strategic goals and operational needs of the organization. Manage payroll, benefits administration, and compensation structures. Chair the HR Committee; lead performance reviews, orientations, and staff development processes.
- Facilities Management: Oversee facility operations and maintenance; manage vendor relationships and ensure a secure and well-maintained environment.
Qualifications:
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field preferred.
- Professional Experience: Minimum of five years of professional experience.
- Leadership Experience: At least two years in an administrative leadership role, ideally within a non-profit or independent school setting.
- Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.) and Microsoft Office.
- Financial Acumen: Demonstrated experience in budgeting, financial reporting, and accounting practices. Knowledge of financial software and systems is a plus.
- Organizational Skills: Highly reliable, well-organized, and able to effectively manage and lead a team.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work collaboratively with various constituency groups.
- Priority Management: Skilled at managing competing priorities and adapting to the cyclical nature of school operations.
- Adaptability: Quick learner with the ability to embrace new systems and approaches.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Understanding of school regulatory compliance is a plus.
- Educational Interest: Experience and/or interest in Waldorf education curriculum, pedagogy, and/or administration is preferred.
