Our commitment to creating better things in a better way is fueled by a belief that the fashion industry needs to focus less on flash and more on thoughtfulness. And as a certified B Corp, we’re dedicated to making the most sustainable products we can by using premium natural materials - designed for life’s everyday adventures.

Where we need help

We are a rapidly growing team of highly intentional and curious people. As our complexity increases across all functions (especially in our 50+ Retail Stores), we are seeking a leader for our People function. This person will be responsible for many human resource functions and will have to ruthlessly prioritize initiatives as we build the infrastructure and capability to support our growing business needs.

What does the job entail?

You will lead a small but capable team of People professionals to uplevel our human capital capabilities and build a high-performance culture. With a small team, you must be hands-on and jump in where needed. You lead by example, not by title. You must be comfortable building the plane while flying it.

Areas include:

Talent Lifecycle Management

  • Improve our ability to source high-quality, diverse candidates both in highly-specialized and retail-related roles who add to Allbirds' incredible culture
  • Improve our interview processes that consistently identify top talent while eliminating bias
  • Enhance onboarding programming, processes, and mentorship to prepare and empower new hires to have a positive impact quickly
  • Create programs for developing and advancing internal talent to assist in their career development and improve retention

Performance Management

  • Improve career-level frameworks for all functions (including Retail) at Allbirds that set high standards and expectations for our employees
  • Iterate on our Performance Management tools and processes to create appropriate advancement plans for employees of all performance levels; this should create a high-performance culture that is nurtured as it grows.

Retail Store Management

  • Operate as a key liaison between the People and Retail teams, ensuring strategies, initiatives and policies are scalable and support the needs of the evolving and growing Retail teams.
  • Work closely with our legal team to maintain compliance with all employment laws as we expand with retail stores across the US and abroad

Business Partnership

  • Partner with the Executive Team to develop a talent management strategy that supports business objectives and enables operational excellence.
  • Partner with key functional leaders to optimize organizational design and staffing, performance management, and other management priorities

Employer Brand Development

  • Choose the right investments and partner with Marketing and Communications to share our employer brand story internally and externally and ensure it reflects our culture and values

Employee Relations

  • Create and augment existing channels for employees to discuss sensitive personal or professional matters
  • Intervene in sensitive people matters, and liaise with various executives across the company to reach appropriate resolutions to employee relations issues

Compensation & Benefits

  • Work closely with the Total Rewards team to augment our compensation philosophy, tactics, and implementation of an effective compensation program as the tools at our disposal evolve

HR Scaling

  • Improve efficiency at scale: Design, implement and maintain processes, tools, and systems needed to grow and support people operations while balancing that with a forward-thinking employee experience strategy.
  • Define and launch programs and/or manage training for DEIB, workplace conduct, etc.

Hybrid Workforce and Culture

  • Help build the environment to support a thriving culture while navigating the complexities of a hybrid, multi-office, international, and retail workforce.
  • Create best-in-class programs, events, and communication channels through experimentation that help cultivate connection and belonging for employees
  • Set ways of working that are adopted by employees to thrive in a hybrid environment

What kind of person are we looking for?

  • You are a dynamic leader who is intrigued by the opportunity to help lead a fast-paced, high-growth, purpose-driven company
  • You have a track record of building trust and credible relationships at all levels of an organization
  • You understand business goals and are able to inspire and harness our most important asset (people) to achieve them
  • You use metrics and analytics to guide program design and strategic decision-making
  • You are passionate about People and are constantly learning from the outside to help inform your approach to your craft
  • You prefer to give and receive direct, timely feedback

More practical skills needed
