Purpose of the Position:

Directing Area Sales efforts to maximize both volume and contribution levels and providing pricing policy and guidelines to assist in achieving the goals of the company. Consciously establishes a culture that encourages customer focus, individual development, efficiency, collaboration, and creates an environment for process improvements. Upholds and ensures that all Hapag-Lloyd policies and procedures are followed and maintained.

Essential Functions:

  1. Create strong relationships with key client stakeholders at senior management level.
  2. Work closely with colleagues on cross-territory opportunities and other internal teams on marketing materials and case studies.
  3. Understand the competitive landscape and market trends.
  4. Determine strategic approach to ensure the delivery of annual targets of export, import, and non-US related business for the territory customer base.
  5. Maintain sales staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees, as well as counseling and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
  6. Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  7. Competent with Microsoft Office Suite and Salesforce.com.
  8. Desire to own projects and exceed expectations, with ability to find solutions and deliver results within a rapidly changing, entrepreneurial, technology-driven culture.
  9. Ability to identify and solve client issues strategically.
  10. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with management and cross-functional teams, for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  11. Generate and maintain accurate Account and Opportunity plans.
  12. Work with internal teams on behalf of clients to ensure the highest level of customer service.
  13. Develop competitive rate and service contract offers to clients in consultation with Trade Management within the guidelines of the company.
  14. Monitor Area bookings versus allocation and budget.
  15. Execute special projects as assigned by Area Management.
  16. Participate in various Hapag-Lloyd working groups, business processes, and any areas as requested by Senior management.
  17. Maintain communication with local managers, providing and disseminating updated information regarding Hapag-Lloyd policies and procedures.
  18. Work closely with other area Directors on process improvement and communication flow.
  19. Coach and develop individual department managers and staff; have regular performance reviews in line with company’s policy and management requirements.
  20. Provide guidance, inspiration, and motivation when achieving goals.
  21. Ascertain that the workload is balanced amongst the various disciplines within each department.

Minimum Qualifications:

University degree, with an advanced degree preferred. 7 – 10 years of Sales experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Proven track record of establishing long-lasting relationships with large size organizations (Fortune 500 companies).
