Overall description:
The Project Engineer role manages the execution of capital investment projects from concept development through commissioning in an existing industrial facility. Responsible for safely delivering projects on-time and within budget. Participates in the implementation and review of site procedures and standards. Manages other engineers within department. Performs all duties within the Company's safety, health & environmental regulations. All other duties as assigned by management.
KEY DUTIES:
• Take project ideas from various sources and develop the scope, budget and schedule.
• Form and lead project teams that can execute the project scope. Take responsibility for project execution and commissioning. The job holder is responsible for coordinating multiple activities using mainly external contracted resources.
• Evaluate, analyze and in some cases create project cost estimates. Focus on cost control during execution stage. Forecasting monthly project spend as needed.
• Ensure site, corporate, and industry Safety, Health and Environmental standards and building regulations are adhered to throughout the project duration. Safe project execution is a key metric that will be emphasized.
• Coach, guide and advise support teams and external contractors to ensure the successful deliver of project objectives.
• Manage delivery of work to required standards which may involve procuring estimates, review of quotes, preparation of order specification, review of vendor drawings & review of instruments included in proprietary vendor packages. Review engineering designs, design systems and instruments within own discipline and solve problems related to these.
• Execute projects on time and in a cost-effective manner which requires an understanding of range of work procedures and practices within the engineering discipline.
• Required to be aware of current best practice including the utilization of cost/energy efficient materials and their effective implementation into project scopes.
• Communication is extensive with leaderships skills that includes documentation of meetings, leading discussions, management of action items and concise and clear guidance to team.
• Make decisions in relation to contractor management, materials used and costs.
Experience & Skills Desired
• Engineering or technical degree preferred
• Broad competence in all key areas of engineering
• Diagnostic capability
• Project management at a high level, procurement and financial competence, negotiating skills
• Ability to plan multiple activities with competing priorities
• High level of Interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of engineering and contractor industry
• Adaptability and resilience
