The City of Chewelah is testing to establish an eligibility list for Lateral & Entry Level Police Officer. Excellent benefits package includes paid holidays, vacation, sick leave, and pension trust. The city contributes toward State retirement and medical/dental/vision coverage for employee and dependents. This is a union position. 2025 starting monthly base wage is $4,566/Mo. This list will remain in effect for 2 years after certification.
The City of Chewelah is nestled in the picturesque Colville Valley, 48 miles north of the city of Spokane. It is approximately 3 square miles in size, with a population of about 2,500 citizens. Chewelah has its own municipal airport and 27-hole golf course. It is 10 miles from the 49 Degrees North Ski area, and 2 miles from the Spokane Tribe Mistequa Casino Hotel.
The Chewelah Police Department currently has 6 fully sworn officers: Chief, Sergeant and 4 patrol officers, with plans to expand our numbers in the future. Chewelah Police Officers receive yearly training, including specialized training in various fields to suit department needs. Officers can be part of the local SRT (Special Response Team) Unit, and one officer is assigned as the SRO (School Resource Officer) for the Chewelah School District.
