Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled R&D Product Design Leader to join our team in Denver, CO. As a Food Product Lead, you will spearhead the development of innovative and delicious new food products that captivate consumers and drive growth for our brands. Leveraging your expertise in food science, culinary arts, and market trends, you will lead cross-functional teams through the entire product development lifecycle, from concept ideation to commercialization. The ideal candidate will have a degree in Food Science and about 8-10 years of relevant experience in the food industry. The R&D lead will play a crucial role in the development of new products and the enhancement of existing ones, ensuring that our offerings meet the highest standards of quality, taste, and market relevance.

Essential Job Functions:

New Product Development:

  1. Conduct research and analysis to identify market trends, consumer preferences, and emerging ingredients in the Mexican cuisine segment.
  2. Lead brainstorming sessions and ideation workshops to generate creative concepts that meet consumer needs and differentiate our product portfolio.
  3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to conceptualize, formulate, and prototype new products, including salsas, chiles, burritos, guacamole, and tortillas.
  4. Conduct sensory evaluations and gather feedback to refine and optimize product formulations.

Recipe Optimization:

  1. Analyze and improve existing recipes for taste, texture, shelf life, and overall quality.
  2. Work closely with production teams to scale up successful prototypes for large-scale manufacturing.
  3. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and certifications.

Ingredient Sourcing:

  1. Evaluate and source high-quality raw materials and ingredients for product development.
  2. Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure a consistent and reliable supply chain.

Quality Control:

  1. Develop and implement product & process specs to ensure product consistency and adherence to company standards.
  2. Collaborate with the Quality Assurance team to address any issues related to product quality or safety.

Documentation and Reporting:

  1. Maintain accurate records of R&D activities, including formulations, test results, and production processes.
  2. Prepare and present regular reports on R&D progress, highlighting successes and areas for improvement.

Job Requirements:

Technical Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in food science with 10+ years of food R&D experience including supervision for 5+ years.
  2. M.S. or PhD in food science with 5+ years of food R&D experience including supervision for 3+ years.
  3. Some experience in frozen food development that includes sauce and protein components with a focus on Mexican cuisine or related ethnic foods is preferred.
  4. Track record of successful product launches from concept to commercialization.
  5. Strong understanding of food chemistry, sensory analysis, and quality control.
  6. Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  7. Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
