Where and how you can work:

Ravenswood is the home to our headquarters in Chicago, Illinois. We take pride in having a friendly, open office life that is relaxed and honest. This role requires the Senior Quality Assurance Engineer to be onsite at the office two-three days a week.

What you’d be doing in this role:

  1. Your expertise will be critical in defining QA strategies, processes, and best practices from the ground up, while mentoring and developing the talent that joins the team.
  2. Collaboration will be key as you work closely with the Product and Development teams, providing valuable insights and feedback to enhance product quality.
  3. Your ability to communicate effectively will bridge the gap between teams, ensuring that issues are quickly identified, addressed, and resolved.
  4. While your primary focus will be testing applications at the GUI level, you’ll also approach the software from the user’s perspective, ensuring that their experience is flawless.

The impact you’ll make:

  1. Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: You'll work closely with Product, Design, and Development teams to understand business needs and ensure the quality of our software.
  2. Turn Requirements into Actionable Tests: You'll dig into user stories, requirements, and product specs to create test cases that ensure everything works as it should.
  3. Provision Test Environments: You'll take charge of setting up and managing test environments, ensuring everything is in place to run accurate and reliable tests.
  4. Uncover and Report Issues: When things don’t go as expected, you'll analyze test results, discover defects, and follow best practices to report them clearly.
  5. Own the Testing Process: You’ll be responsible for creating and executing test plans that thoroughly assess the quality of our applications.
  6. Apply Technology Expertise: You’ll leverage your knowledge of web technologies, REST APIs, and languages like Java, Ruby on Rails, XML, JS, CSS, and HTML.
  7. Communicate Progress: You’ll keep the team in the loop with regular updates on test progress, results, and the overall quality of application changes.
  8. Perform with Autonomy: You’ll take initiative, executing your role with minimal supervision and escalating issues when necessary.

Your expertise:

  1. You have 5-7 years honing your skills in QA, giving you a deep prowess and competence in software testing across a variety of environments.
  2. You’ve worked with APIs, REST, and SOAP services, using tools like Postman or SoapUI.
  3. Manual testing for web-based technologies comes second nature to you.
  4. You have proficiency in testing distributed components in a microservice environment.
  5. You are secure in your critical-thinking skills and the ability to focus on details as well as the big picture.
  6. Your verbal and written communication skills are excellent.
  7. You have the ability to communicate information to technical and non-technical audiences.
  8. You’re a team player who can easily adapt in a rapidly changing environment.
  9. You have the capability to work both independently and within a team environment.
  10. You have the proven ability to collaborate through open communication.
  11. Legal software experience is a plus!

Computer Skills Needed to Perform this Job:

  1. You have a strong proficiency working with Java, Ruby on Rails, XML, JS, CSS, and HTML.
  2. You’re experienced in testing APIs and services specifically REST and SOAP.
  3. You have a deep understanding of cloud infrastructure with extensive experience in AWS.
  4. You’ve worked in cross-browser, cross-platform web testing.
  5. You have a thorough understanding of Agile/Scrum development processes.
  6. You’re proficient in searching system logs and troubleshooting potential defects.
  7. You’ve got strong experience in preparing and maintaining test data and scripts.
  8. Your deep knowledge of software testing best practices and methodologies means you’re always working to ensure the highest quality.
