StadiumJob TypeFull TimeJob Number35116DepartmentHouston Health DepartmentDivisionHHD - Maternal Child HealthOpening Date10/07/2024Closing Date10/21/2024 11:59 PM CentralDescriptionBenefitsQuestionsPOSITION OVERVIEWApplications accepted from: ALL PERSONS INTERESTEDPN 35116Division: Maternal Child HealthSection: Healthy Families HoustonWorkdays & Hours: Mon – Fri 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.* (Flexibility on community needs)*Subject to changeDESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe Houston Health Department is seeking a professional applicant to perform the following duties:• Perform home visits for enrollment and continued services in accordance with the Healthy Families America (HFA) model and guidelines using the Growing Great Kids curriculum within the greater Houston area.• Develop a therapeutic relationship and implements an individual Family Goal Plan including a Service Plan with women and their families to promote problem solving and self-sufficiency.• Utilize principles and concepts of parallel process and reflective practice (modeling, relationships, change theory,client centered strength based and solutions).• Document all official activities and encounters on appropriate forms and reporting tools including immunizations, breast feeding education, family planning, depression screenings, linking families to medical providers.• Participate in community projects, presentations, departmental special projects and outreach activities.•Refer and link children and families to social and community resources.• Address high-complex needs and risk factors of multiple families.•Assist with data collection and evaluationWORKING CONDITIONSThe position occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional very light lifting, such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight) may be required. There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:Requires a Bachelor's degree in Education, Behavioral Science, or a closely related field such as Public Health.EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:Two (2) years of experience in Public Health, Education or a closely related field are required.A Master's degree in Education, Behavioral Science, or closely related field such as Public Health may be substituted for the above requirements.Directly related professional experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.LICENSE REQUIREMENTSNonePREFERENCES**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6Experience in working with or providing services to children and familiesAn ability to establish trusting relationshipsAcceptance of individual differencesExperience and humility to work with the culturally diverse familiesKnowledge of infant and child developmentWilling to engage in building reflective capacity (e.g., capacity for introspection, communicating awareness of self in relation to others, recognizing value of supervision, etc.)Infant mental health endorsement preferredGENERAL INFORMATIONSELECTION/SKILLS TEST REQUIREMENTSNone.
