The Senior Engineer, Project Development will hold the lead responsibility for the development of energy audits and performance contracts by assisting assigned staff Engineers and Project Managers with developing design concepts for energy conservation measures by identifying, assessing, and structuring technical and financial solutions to meet customer objectives. The Engineer will identify, qualify, and quantify energy conservation measures (ECMs) associated with HVAC, EMS, building envelope, and heating and cooling systems. Responsibilities include but are not limited to site investigations, utility analysis, performing energy savings calculations, designing HVAC, EMS and Central Plant system retrofits, developing cost estimates and written descriptions of energy conservation measures in support of technical audits and EPC proposals. The Engineer will use industry-standard software such as Carrier HAP, Microsoft Excel and various manufacturers’ selection software programs in the development of mechanical designs and energy calculations. The Senior Engineer will also direct and develop junior engineers, who will assist, in the design of mechanical systems and the development of investment grade audits.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the design engineering staff in screening and qualifying the feasibility of energy efficiency and capital improvement opportunities. This will involve attending selected customer meetings, and conducting site trips to collect facility and utility data
- Develop and run energy screening models to determine the technical and economic viability of energy efficiency and capital improvement projects
- Screen models, including bin analyses, hourly building simulation computer models, and commercially-available analysis packages
- Direct junior staff in producing mechanical designs and drawings by providing guidance and training on mechanical system design, construction document preparation, and the use of various software programs
- Field work will be associated with documenting existing, as-built conditions during the development/design phase and inspecting contractors' work during the construction phase
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering is required, PE registration is preferred
LEED AP, CEM certifications, preferred
A minimum of 10 years of experience in HVAC, EMS and/or central plant design is required
A minimum of 10 years of experience in plumbing and/or fire protection system design is preferred
A minimum of 5 years of experience with energy conservation and associated building system retrofits is preferred
AutoCAD and/or REVIT proficiency required
A minimum of 5 years of experience with performance contracting is preferred
Familiarity with LEED and green building design is preferred
Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to manage customer relationships
Demonstrated desire to learn about the Company and the renewables space
Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Teams
Strong leadership and communication, and ability to meet deadlines
Strong organization skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks and deliverables
Ability to multi-task, while working independently and as part of a team
Motivated self-starter, goal-oriented, and strong problem-solving abilities
Proven ability to empathize, build relationships, and effectively communicate with people from a diverse set of backgrounds
Responds well to direction, is easy to challenge and develop, and is coachable

Ability to walk, climb, and stand extensively during the work day
Knowledge of environmental and safety policies and procedures
Ability and willingness to travel to and from job sites as assigned

Must have good analytical and computer skills and attention to detail
Strong leadership, verbal, written and interpersonal skills
Engineering, analytical and technical writing skills, including word processing and spreadsheet analyses
Building energy use modeling and simulation experience is desirable (e.g. eQUEST, HAP, DOE2, Trane Trace, ASHRAE Modified Bin Analysis)
Design experience with HVAC and other building systems
Knowledge of local and national building codes and standards to include: Building Codes, NFPA Codes, USGBC LEED standards and ASHRAE 90.1
This position is an office-based role with some travel and visits to other RWECE office and field locations. The employee must be able to sit, walk, or stand for long durations of time
