Come join team Carilion as an Operations Manager for our Ground and EMS Divisions. Carilion Clinic Patient Transportation operates six ground ambulance bases and one primary EMS/911 base in Southwest Virginia. We pride ourselves in putting the Carilion Clinic values in action, from providing medical support at community events with our EMS bike team to training with our medical director in the state-of-the-art Carilion Clinic simulation center aimed at enhancing our commitment to the delivery of exceptional medical care. Carilion Clinic Patient Transportation (CCPT) is the largest transport agency in the region, providing emergency and non-emergency basic life support and advanced life support ambulance transportation from our bases in Giles, Radford, Lexington, Hardy, Rocky Mount, and Roanoke. CCPT employs 180 ground EMS providers and maintains a fleet of 40 ambulances that are permitted and staffed for advanced life support.

The Ground/EMS Operations Manager reports directly to the Ground/EMS Program Director and will work closely with our Communications Center and each of our Ground/EMS clinical team leaders to manage operations, personnel, develop performance improvement projects, ensure regulatory accreditation, and promote employee engagement. The Ground/EMS Operations Manager will manage approximately 90 FTEs including FT and Flex/PRN EMS employees and 22 ambulances in the Roanoke Fleet. Patient volume for the Roanoke base runs 16,000-18,000 runs per year and 30,000 annually for the entire company. Pay is based on experience and starts at $34.00 per hour.

Responsibilities include planning of budget and managing expenses. Communicates, organizes, prioritizes, leads, facilitates, coaches, and problem solves with reporting staff to ensure that goals and objectives are met. Works with other service line leaders to carry out new health care services and performance improvement initiatives. Positively and appropriately represents Carilion Clinic at public and professional meetings. May provide direct patient care.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

  1. Education: Must be a graduate of an approved school or EMS program. Bachelor’s degree required. 4 years relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  2. Experience: 3 years of clinical experience in emergency medical services required. 2 years of supervisory experience in emergency medical services required. Previous work experience in Air Medevac, Dispatch, Ground EMS, Pediatric-Neonatal transport care, Critical Care Nursing, or Transfer Center preferred.
  3. Licensure, certification, and/or registration: License/Certification is required, based upon discipline. Nationally Registered and Virginia State Intermediate or Paramedic certification required or Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Virginia required at hire. AHA BLS - HCP. ACLS, PALS, NRP and PHTLS or BTLS required within one year from date of hire.
  4. Other Minimum Qualifications: Demonstrates excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, communication, team leadership, priority setting, and work competency skills. Promotes a respectful, inclusive culture of service excellence. Must maintain continuing education hours to meet re-certification status as required by State and National standards. Must successfully complete CCPT orientation based on certification level and maintain all required clinical competencies and certifications annually.
