The Brooklyn Kindergarten Society (BKS) is the original “born in Brooklyn”. Founded in 1891, BKS has provided high-quality early childhood education to working families for 130 years. BKS has grown with the borough and continues to lead in equal access to high-quality early childhood education. Our mission is to provide an equal first educational step to some of our borough’s youngest learners. We offer full-day, year-round academic experiences and care for children ages 2-5 years old. Our play-based curriculum integrates reading, writing, movement, and music with STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) learning.

JOB PURPOSE

The ECE Program Director will ensure the implementation of the Creative Curriculum model by teachers throughout the school and monitor all staff to maintain compliance with company policies and state regulations. Responsibilities include:

  1. Day-to-day center operations, including scheduling, classroom observations, staff training, and development.
  2. Curriculum development, implementation, and assessment.
  3. Maintaining compliance with NYC DOH licensing regulations and Article 47.

SCOPE OF INFLUENCE

Preserves educational excellence through monitoring teaching staff for quality instruction and maintaining center space in accordance with DOHMH and DOE requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Center Operations (Health and Safety, Compliance, Coaching, Curriculum Implementation) 90%:

  1. Understand the goals, objectives, and vision of BKS.
  2. Supervise all Center staff (teachers, assistant teachers, teacher aides, cooks, assistant cooks, assistant bookkeeper, custodians).
  3. Ensure full implementation of all aspects of Creative Curriculum, policies/procedures, and tools to support all children in achieving school readiness goals.
  4. Provide ongoing coaching to teaching staff in effective practices.
  5. Conduct formal and informal observations of each teacher team and provide constructive feedback.
  6. Work with teachers to implement the child assessment system reliably.
  7. Participate in the recruitment of children to the center.
  8. Collaborate with the Family Services Department for intake and placement of new children.
  9. Work with the Director of Compliance to ensure city and state compliance.
  10. Establish efficient record-keeping processes.
  11. Spearhead staff accountability for promoting child health and safety.
  12. Manage interactions with the Dept. of Education and Dept. of Health.
  13. Attend monthly DASPC meetings and run reports.
  14. Monitor food logs and weekly menus with the Cook and Assistant Cook.
  15. Assign daily work to Custodian.
  16. Manage NYCHA ticket process for repairs needed in the center.
  17. Enter information into DOE/BKS systems.

Minimum Salary: $80,000
Maximum Salary: $85,000
