Summary of position :
The mental health specialist works as a member of the Head Start Health Team to coordinate the effective implementation of the mental health service area of the Head Start Program.
Job Responsibilities (see attached job description for additional details):

• Work with other service area and center staff to identify children with behavioral and/or mental health needs.
• Review all staff and consultant observations and screening of children.
• Coordinate services to enrolled children with mental health and/or behavioral issues with the assistance of other component specialists as needed.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records on each child with behavioral and/or mental health needs.
• Work with classroom teams to develop and incorporate strategies in the classroom setting to meet student needs.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in psychology, behavioral health, social science, special education or related field, with experience working with preschool age children.
• Knowledge of growth and development processes of young children and a variety of mental health and behavioral conditions.
• Communicate effectively with professionals and families of children with special needs.
• Provide own transportation.
• Ability to work flexible hours.

Schedule:
Full-time, 12 months/year
Salary:
Starting at $29.65/hour (salary based on education level) Per Head Start Salary Scale
