We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Associate Vice President (AVP) of IT to lead our IT department. The AVP of IT is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the IT department, ensuring that the organization's technology infrastructure is aligned with its business goals. This includes managing the IT team, developing, and implementing IT policies and procedures, and ensuring the security and reliability of the organization's systems and data. The AVP of IT must have strong technical skills, as well as excellent leadership and communication abilities. They must be able to work collaboratively with other departments and stakeholders to identify technology needs and recommend solutions that support the organization's objectives. The ideal candidate will enhance organizational efficiency, foster innovation, and drive growth in a dynamic, results-driven environment.

Requirements:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify technology needs and recommend solutions that align with business goals.
  • Manage SQL Server administration and security, including access management, backup environments, and capacity monitoring and planning.
  • Document, test, and codify the museum’s data center backup strategy and disaster recovery plans.
  • Oversee Microsoft 365 Administration, including security, email, backup, and retention plans.
  • Responsible for Active Directory and Enterprise System Security design in partnership with the VP of Technology.
  • Lead execution of VMWare virtualization and replication including storage design and future architecture and support structure.
  • Support Enterprise system deployments and application roll outs with standard specifications, service management, and change management principles.
  • Lead development of specifications for IT procurements for enterprise software, hardware, and services, optimizing procurement processes for efficiency and cost effectiveness as well as IT vendor management.
  • Direct all database administration and automation/reporting/monitoring needs such as developing and maintaining scripts for automation and a system to manage and maintain company databases, ensuring regular backups, updates, security, and data integrity.
  • Lead the IT Team (part of the larger Technology Team), including budgeting, strategic planning, change management, and HR/conflict resolution.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Active Directory management and AD Connect.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 administration, including Entra and Azure.
  • Strong knowledge of scripting (PowerShell, R, Python, etc.) for automation and system monitoring.
  • Database administration knowledge with the ability to maintain and secure databases according to recovery time, business requirements, and retention policies.
  • Familiarity with server systems, backup procedures, and monitoring tools.
  • Command line interface (CLI) proficiency for system administration and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to configure and manage virtual machines and cloud-based applications.
  • Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, Microsoft 365 Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent certifications are a plus.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred. Relevant certifications may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • At least 8-10 years of experience in IT operations, system administration and support. Previous experience as a DBA preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft 365, Azure, and Active Directory and experience in database administration and scripting for automation. Microsoft certified professional preferred.
  • Proven leadership in managing a team of IT professionals.
  • Expertise in technical support, disaster recovery, business continuity, system and database administration in a large-scale data environment.
  • Strong track record of developing and implementing IT policies, procedures, and standards for data security and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience in overseeing the deployment of enterprise applications to a vast user base.
  • Familiarity with ITIL v4 (and above) Framework preferred.

Other Requirements:

  • Flexibility to perform occasional off-hours system maintenance and support. Able to work hours that may extend outside of the typical 40-hour work week, including weekends and evenings, to complete tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to research problems quickly and resolve issues with minimal direct supervision.
  • Ability to communicate technical issues in non-technical terms understandable to management and staff without information technology expertise.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, frequently with short immediate deadlines. Strong customer service, time management, conflict resolution, and problem determination/resolution skills.
  • Ability to work smoothly and effectively with outside vendors and consultants employed by the Museum in the field of information technology.
