Doeren Mayhew is seeking a Senior Tax Associate to join our Houston, TX office. Our associates have the opportunity to work with a variety of clients in industries such as manufacturing, construction, dealership, real estate, wholesale and distribution, retail and more.

Responsibilities:

  1. Extensive experience in the home building, real estate and construction industry
  2. Lead preparation of complex tax returns (individual, C-Corp, S-Corp, partnerships, trust, estate, etc.)
  3. Ability to identify and analyze tax issues and come to conclusions
  4. Prepare quarterly and year-end estimates to assist clients with tax planning
  5. Perform diversified tax assignments under the direction of a supervisor, manager or partner
  6. Demonstrate competency in technical skills, work quality and application of professional and firm standards
  7. Meet time constraints and client deadlines
  8. Build strong client relationships and ensure client needs are being met
  9. Possess technical knowledge sufficient to assist staff associates and interns
  10. Review the work of less experienced associates and provide guidance/mentorship to assist them in developing technical skills
  11. Begin acquiring the skills necessary to develop quality client relationships and loyalty
  12. Participate in firm training courses to further develop technical skills
  13. Provide excellent client service by producing quality work, quick turnaround and attentive service
  14. Become proficient at tax research including a knowledge of the reference sources available to the firm

Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree in Accounting
  2. Meets all requirements to sit for CPA exam and actively pursuing same (CPA Preferred)
  3. Those possessing CPA certification will be given preference
  4. Minimum 3 years of public accounting, demonstrating a progression in complexity of tax returns
  5. Excellent analytical and soft skills
  6. Ability to make and support decisions regarding accounting and tax matters
  7. Ability to perform and direct multiple engagements with competing priorities
  8. Excellent communication and writing skills
  9. Ability to mentor, lead, and train
  10. Extensive knowledge of S-Corp and partnership returns
  11. Ability to work independently, but also in a team environment
  12. Highly motivated, self-starter with ability to multitask
